3 Year old Ankle Sprain, still not better! Help!?!

Question: 3 Year old Ankle Sprain, still not better! Help!!?
I sprained my ankle badly 3 years ago, ruptured ligamants and have had minor physiotherapy but it's still not better!
It still gives way sometimes, usually with a sharp stabbing pain, and it also aches and throbs if i'm on my feet too long!.
I've been to the doctors twice recently asking them to check it out, but both times they've told me they can't find anything wrong with it, one just told me to exercise at the gym an that would strengthen it!. This sounds like stupid advice to me seeing as it's sometimes painful to exercise!.!.!.surely the pain is my body trying to tell me something's wrong!?
Don't know what to do! I don't want to pay later in life for not having taken action when i was young and souple!
Is there anywhere i can go to seek alternate advice other than a GP!? If so, will i not need a referal!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

A lot of the time injuries like breaks and bad sprains can become sore and painful with certain activities even after healed!.
It's like when people are in car accidents and they hurt their back (not even anything seriously), a lot of the time it will continue to give them problems!.
That's happened to me!. Same with the shoulder I had rotator cuff surgery on- I can't lay on it for very long without it getting very sore!. And it's been years since I had that surgery!.

Exercise/strength training will help!. I suggest swimming for you since you since it's not hard on the joints and such!.

An orthopedic surgeon may be of better help to you than your doctor!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Any injury weakens the area!.
You will have to exercise it to strengthen it!. Work up to the pain - but not through it!. Make sure you use ankle supports and have cool packs available!.
It will improve with the right exercise but it is worth getting a trainer to suggest that exercise to you!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Go to your Doc and insist you have an xray!., he is not an orthopaedic surgeon and cannot see what is happening inside your foot!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
