Broken or sprained wrist/arm?!


Question: Broken or sprained wrist/arm!?
I was biking home yesterday from a football offseason workout and I fell!. I broke my fall with my right arm!. I was able to bike home (mile or so) and put ice on it!. It was swollen towards yesterday afternoon, but the swelling seems to of gone down!.

Right now, it hurts when I move my wrist but I can move my fingers and such without pain!. It's a tolerable pain, nothing severe or even moderately severe!. I immobilized it for the moment with one of those wrist braces!. Can someone figure out if it's broken or if it's just a sprain (that's what I think it is)!? Also, how long does it usually take to heal!? I don't want to miss too much practice (starts on the 11th)!.

Sounds like you bruised the bone and sprained the wrist!. I've broken many bones and if you can move your fingers and twist your wrist without blurting out expletives with tears in your eyes you should be good!. The brace is a great idea!. Put an ice pack in the brace and it should reduce all the swelling!. I would leave the brace on until you can move it without pain!. A week max should do it!. -Do your parents think it is broke!? Just a question, my mom would have already carted me off to the er!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

you may have jammed it when you broke your fall keep ice on it sometimes its best to out ice on it then heat!.!.like alternate them!.!. if it gets worse go to the doc,,but i bet it will get betterWww@Answer-Health@Com

i truly doubt it is broken cause you can move your fingers with out pain, and if it was broken the pain would be pretty bad and it would throb constantlyWww@Answer-Health@Com

Wrist Injury Treatment
When you have fallen and injured your wrist, it is important to rest your arm!.

If there is an obvious deformity of the wrist or numbness in the hand, you should lay your wrist across a soft pillow and seek medical attention immediately!.
If there is no obvious deformity and you are not in severe pain, you may want to take some acetaminophen (such as Tylenol) or ibuprofen (Advil) and wait to see how the wrist feels!. Again, a soft pillow is a good temporary splint!.
Apply ice to the area!. Do not put ice directly on your skin!. You can wrap a bag of frozen vegetables in a towel to create an icepack!.
If pain or other symptoms do not go away within a day, you should see a doctor!.
