Sharp and aching pain in knees?!

Question: Sharp and aching pain in knees!?
For the past 18 months or so I have been dealing with mild to mod!. knee pain and sometimes severe (rare)!. The pain started out of the blue (NO previous knee injury)!. I felt a sharp pain throughout my right knee!. The pain has since persisted!. My left knee began hurting some time later!. I have been to three different doctors (2 orthopedics and my family Dr!.) and to a phys!. therapist (two months)!. The sharp pain is under both knee caps and worsens when i flex my quad muscle!. The left and right sides of knees are the most aggravating, as the ache after walking up/down stairs, walking/running for a period of time, standing for long periods of time, sitting for shorter periods of time, and squatting for short periods!. All three doctors have given diff!. diagnosis!. Prior or Current Meds include: Tylenol, Goodys Powder, various anti-inflam, and perscription pain med!. I am only 23 and I am aggravated with insesent pain!. Has anyone been diagnosed with similar symptoms!?

I would be curious to hear what diagnoses' you have been given!. I have had a lot of experience with knee pain as I had severe knee pain for a year and when I saw the surgeon he immedaitely diagnosed and treated my problem!. With your case I believe the cause could be patllo femoral syndrome!. It is a condition that occurs when your knee cap (patella) is incorrectly tracking!. It is not sitting in the right position when it is bent and when straightened it may slide back in causing pain!. Usually the pain is increased by activities such as; standing up, squatting, going up and especially down stairs, and after sitting for long periods!. Usually what is reccommended is to go to physio to try and strengthen surrounding muscles and sometimes alleviate or cure the condition!. However as you have already attempted this it is not advisable!. Sometimes taping of the patella to keep it in position, helps with the pain or the wearing of a patella stabilizing brace, however these simply help cover up the problem and do not cure it!. This condition is obviously very aggravating and surgical treatemnt may cure your problem!. They may arthroscopically loosen or tighten muscles which will help to stabilize your patella and hold it in position!. Consult a surgeon and don't give up until you find someone to help you!. Try getting your family doctor to get you in to a sports medicine clinic!. Good luck I hope this helps!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

My friend had a simular problem!. She said her knee felt like bones against bone though and she went to the doctor and prescribed her medicine and said she was fine becuz nothing came up on the xrays!. So she changed doctors and then she found out it was her Tendons!. If its that then if your taking medicine for it!. Out of everything in your leg the tendons get the medicine last!. So if the medicine isn't working that would be another sign it might be your tendons!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

If you are a runner your cartalidge is probably breaking down!. If you are overweight, could be too much pressure on your knees!. (For every pound lost, takes 4 lbs of pressure off the knees)!. For them to find out exactly where the problem is you would have to have testing like an MRI or something similar!. Good luck to you!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Could it be growing pains!? I had similar knee pains around 20 that were sharp and occured without a pattern!. I thought mine were from volleyball-related problems!. Never found out what it was, but I haven't had pains for a few years now!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
