Muscle pain in ten year old's legs?!

Question: Muscle pain in ten year old's legs!?
my very active ten year old son has really bad pains in his legs!. he has them most of the day, but worse at night and first thing!. GP says they are growing pains, come back in three months and take regular pain killing medicine!. he is still suffering!. i dont really want to stop him doing his sports that he loves (football, tennis, swimming) but i dont want him to be reliant on pain killers either!. I rub his legs before he starts sports and when they ache, and encourage him to stretch them and warm up before he starts (notsure if he actually does this though!) any other suggestions how i can help him!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Another avenue that may be helpful is a Chiropractor, especially one that is trained in the Active Release Technique, which is what is used on a lot of professional athletes, NFL, Olympics, etc!., when even the big grownup athletes get these pains!. Sometimes they are from muscles spasms, which these doctors can get to " release " with their techniques, and sometimes it can be a pinched nerve in his lower back, which can sometimes happen during a football tackle or such!. Either way, this type of Chiropractor has made all my athlete friends and their children feel better!. I wouldn't just decide to " deal with it " calling it growing pains, and take meds for years!. Find out what the cause is of this pain, and have it worked out, your child will feel so much better getting good rest!. Almost all insurance companies cover this type of medical therapy, and it's so non-evasive and drug free!. It's worth a try, it works for professional athletes and weekend warriors and children of all activity levels!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I used to get terrible growing pains, I know how he feels! Especially at night, all you can do is lie there and wiggle your legs!

I never went to the docs about them, but they do hurt more after you have had an active day!.

It won't completely go away but heat is best!. When I had growing pains at night my Mum used to rub my legs really really fast and it really soothes the pain!. Also try wrapping his legs in a scarf at night (I used to do that myself!) after rubbing to keep the warmth in!. One of those heat ip bean bag things or a hot water bottle might help too!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I'm no expert but I think that being active is probably the right thing to do - it sounds good that he is warming up and stretching well, I remember going through growing pains myself during my teen growth spurt, it was very uncomfortable!. I found swimming quite helpful though, he might like to give it a try!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Hi!. I started having them from the age of 9!. They would mainly occur after sports!. They were very painful and used to reduce me to tears, my dad used to rub deep heat into my legs until i cried myself to sleep :) I am now 27, still have it and my husband rubs deep heat into my legs!. It doesn't happen on such a regular basis now but about once a month :(Www@Answer-Health@Com

both my sons had these pains,so did i!. they are growing pains and they hurt like hell!. i used to have to get up during the night to rub their legs with deep heat!. my youngest son still gets them so i just give him a pain killer and rub them for him!. take him to your doctor cos my son had to be tested for juvenile arthritus!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

My 10 year old just had a back to school physical and I asked this same question!. I was told that it was basically 'growing pains' and that the best thing to do was to keep her hydrated!. Water, water, and more water!. The water will help with both the muscle and joints!.

Hope this helps!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
