Answers:
Chondromalacia patella is due to an affection of the cartilage under the kneecap!. At your age for it to occur, you must have been excessively exercising your knee, may be climbing stair, hills, or other exercises severe on the knees!.

The usual management consists of
1!. In the stage of acute pain -- Cold packs locally , pain relievers and rest to the affected knee!.
2!. Preventive - Avoid exercises that are severe on the knee and strengthening your muscles of the thigh specially the Quadriceps!.

In this condition cartilage loses its shock absorbing qualities!.
You should show the doctor if there is no relief from the initial treatment or if the knee is swollen or painful at rest!.
The doctor can assess further by doing x- rays, imaging studies or arthroscopy!.

But in your case as you are young such investigations may not be needed and the exercises to the muscles of the thigh and avoiding those activities that aggravate the conditions , may give total relief!.
You may take antiinflammatory!.pain killers (NSAID s) to reduce the pain!.
Unfortunately it may sometimes take weeks for full relief!.
The difficulty may be that at your age you may be unable to stop certain activities like jogging, climbing stairs etc!.

But you have to take it into you heart and prevent further damage to the cartilage!.
I advise you to meet a physiotherapist who may do some physical therapy!.!.

You will be alright soon and take courage and limit your
activities that are harmful to the knee!.

If you want to do exercises cycling and swimming may be alright, but decide after meeting the physio!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Go back to your doctor, tell him/her that you don't think it's working and ask if you can go to physical therapy where the physical therapist can show you how to do the exercises correctly!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
