Pain and analgesic ?- I have MS and severe muscle pain. Will oromorph or ultrace!

Question: Pain and analgesic !?- I have MS and severe muscle pain!. Will oromorph or ultracet work the same !?
Has anyone had any experience and prefers one over other!? I don't like feeling drugged out!. I am leery of trying the ultracet- I have had oromorph once before about two yrs ago after hospitalization, but my doctor doesn't want to prescribe it!. I have had very nasty reactions to dilaudid and vicodin, codeine and acetaminophen (an ultracet ingredient) does nothing for me!. Can't doctors just listen and prescribe what works for you!? I am in constant pain these last couple of months and can't take it anymore!. Seems like they keep wanting to use valium and it doesn't stop the pain just makes me feel so drugged I can't stay awake, but I am still in pain!. Please advise! Thanks!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
I don't have MS, but I do have a disorder that causes severe chronic pain and took Oramorph for several years!. Now I use Fentanyl patches, which last for 72 hrs!. at a time with Oxycontin for breakthrough pain and Valium for the severe muscle spasms I get in my neck!. Oramorph is pure Morphine Sulfate, in a time-release formulation that lasts 12 hours!. If you have had bad reactions to all the narcotic analgesics that you list, your doctor may not want to risk giving you yet another medication that you will have a bad reaction to!. Ultracet is about as powerful as codeine--in other words, not enough for severe pain!. It's nowhere near as strong as MS, not even in the same category!. Also, it has APAP in it, which can, if you take enough of it over a long period of time, cause severe liver and kidney damage!. Possibly your doctor is trying to address the muscle spasms that are causing the pain of your MS with the Valium!. Possibly, s/he is also one of those doctors who are out of touch with the times and who are "afraid" of prescribing sufficient analgesia (pain killers) for their patients out of a misguided sense that they are "creating" addicts!. You have an absolute RIGHT to have your pain addressed and treated, and you should probably get another opinion from another MD!. You could also go to a physician that specializes in pain management, as I did when I finally got my pain issues treated!. Good luck with it!. I've had to move several times in the past few years and changed insurance plans!. Each time I do, I wonder what it's going to be like with a new doctor, whether that doctor will be willing to continue to prescribe my medications, or what his or her approach is going to be!. After having lived with this for so many years, I know that the only way that I can keep on working is to be able to take pain medications, otherwise, I would be forced to stop working and be in a lot of misery!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
