Is my hand broken from a playful punch?!
Question: Is my hand broken from a playful punch!?
Today at the beach I was playing with my friend and I jokingly punched him in the back!. My hand immediately started to hurt!. I believe it is my 5th metacarpal that is in pain (The one under my pinky)!. That was about 3-4 hours ago and as of now, I can still fully move all of my fingers with out pain and there is no noticable swelling of the hand (Maybe just a tiny bit)!. I can also move my hand up and down but it hurts to go side to side!. Th pain seems to be coming from the base of the 5th metacarpal but when I touch it, I can not feel any bumps or anything!. Certainly no one can tell you if it is broken or hairline fracture unless you have xrays and sometimes hairlines dont show on xray!.But no matter since the only thing if it were broken that you would do is immobilize it ( since it doesnt seem from your description to be a compound fracture where you would need it reduced) So you know the old joke"Doc, it hurts when I do this' and the Doc says' Well dont do that then' Keep it elevated, ice if it gets worse, let it rest from hard labor and stop punching your friend!. !!!Www@Answer-Health@Com
