Will my foot and toes ever be able to function normally?!

Question: Will my foot and toes ever be able to function normally!?
I was involved in a motorcycle accident in 2005 that caused me to break my tibia, fibula, and femur, as well as multiple skin grafts and nerve damage!.

Now, three years later, I still haven't been able to move my toes or bend my foot!. I had drop foot, which was surgically corrected in the winter of 2007 but that had no effect on the bending of my foot or toes!.

My toes just feel stiff and I actually had hammer-toe correction (which did not fix the problem)!. I talked to nerve doctors and other surgeons and they pretty much just said time will tell, as nerves grow 1-3cm/month!. I have no strength to tippy-toe or even squat!.

Do I still have hope!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

The human body has an amazing ability to repair itself!. While nerves are one of the slowest parts of the body to heal, they do heal with time!. I think there are a couple factors at play in your case!.

First, the damaged nerves that were causing your foot to drop!. Surgery corrects the physical appearance--the foot is no longer able to drop--but it does nothing to heal the nerves inside!. (Drop foot can be caused by damage in nerves in the spinal cord!.)

The other factor is that the joints in the foot and toes have probably become stiff from lack of use, first from the initial injury and then from the ongoing paralysis!. Getting those joints lubricated and working again takes time and effort!. They need movement to get strong again!. Use your hands to move your toes and feet in as many ways possible, or get a massage therapist or chiropractor to do it for you!.

The best way to help nerves to heal quickly is to eat a healthy diet (and not eating well is the number-one reason they often don't heal well)!. Drink plenty of liquids and eat lots of fruits, vegetables, and sea salt as these have minerals that the body needs to heal!. B vitamins, like those found in red meat, are essential for nerves!. Make sure you eat plenty of fat--fat is the one thing that is absolutely essential for nerves to heal!. Omega-3 fats are some of the best; you can find them in eggs that advertise high omega-3 levels!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Sweetie, haven't you ever heard the old saying "Where there is life, there is hope"!?

Don't be discouraged!. You do still have hope!. You really have a lot to be thankful, especially since you can walk, and did not lose your leg!. Think positively and then you can have faith that you will get the feeling and use back in your toes, and be able to bend your foot!.

God Bless You!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Never give up hope!. Keep doing your best to move your toes!. Even try massage, to bring the blood circulation back into the areas affected!. It could take a few more years, but don't give up!. Keep moving your toes, even if you have to use your fingers to move your toes!. Some physical therapy will help too!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
