Yea what sports does he play!? I would assume a contact sport!. Some guy chopped block me last year and after that i had bad fluid in my knees!. Luckily Football was about over at that point so i Rested and they subsided!. Tell his Coach what his condition is and that he will be back in a week or however long until He gets better!. If he is a good coach he will understand!. (He may even have advice on what else he could do or who he could see)!. I heard of some boys actually draining the fluid in their knees'!. But it was pretty bad by then and usually it will just go away on their own!. Ice it and keep that leg propped up on an incline, like a pillow or something so the fluid can drain!. The real issue is to just ice, ice, ice, ice!. If it doesn't get better and you are sure you have iced it and have been resting on it for a period of time go to the doctor and explain it again!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I dont personally know much about it, all i know is I have a close friend who had "fluid in her knee" and after a longgg time of pain killers and resting and therapy a doctor finally suggested this surgery where they drill a tiny hole in the knee, take the fluid out, and then she goes back to therapy!. She still calls it her "bad knee" but it doesnt hurt her and it's getting better and better!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I've never got fluid in my knee's butI know what it's like!. I've had an injured knee from playing hockey for two years now!. My best advice is to get a trainers brace!. It helps me alot!. You can pick them up at any drugstore!. Tell him to keep it easy for awhile, it takes time!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

have you made an appointment with an orthopedic specialist!? in the mean time, if playing is triggering it, he needs to take a rest from the sports!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

go back and keep complaining eventually they will do something experience has showed that if you accept being brushed off they won't do there job properly keep up the pressure there is no reason why your lad should be in pain apart from medical indifference Www@Answer-Health@Com

I haven't experienced that at all before, but you should go to a different hospital!. It may be something serious, it may not!.

Good luck=)Www@Answer-Health@Com

Fluid on the knee
What is fluid on the knee!? What is joint effusion!?

Everyone has fluid in all mobile joints (hips, knees, shoulders, etc), but usually the amount of fluid is very small (really just enough to coat the surfaces of the joints themselves) and under normal conditions you don't know it's there!. The fluid serves two main functions!. One function of the fluid is to help lubricate the cartilage surfaces, so they move smoothly!. In fact, normal cartilage that is lubricated by normal joint fluid (called "synovial fluid") is many times more slippery than a hockey puck gliding across a smooth ice rink!. The other function of the fluid is to help nourish and protect the cartilage surfaces of the joint!.

But when you have enough fluid in a joint to where you notice it (either by being able to see it, or by being able to feel it as a tense swelling) that's what people call "water on the joint!." The technical term is a "joint effusion!." Such a visible or detectable swelling of a joint is never normal, and it may be caused by any of a number of conditions, including:

Arthritis: Either osteoarthritis -- called degenerative joint disease -- or inflammatory arthritis, such as rheumatoid arthritis
Trauma: The fluid in certain kinds of trauma may be blood, rather than synovial fluid
Infection: The fluid in this case may be pus, rather than synovial fluid
Depending on the cause of the fluid accumulation, the treatments may be very different!.

It is reasonable to speak to an orthopaedic surgeon should you detect water on a joint if that joint is also painful!.

Listen to the doctor - you likely aren't giving it a chance to go away, because you say every time he plays something!. Do as the doctor says, put him on the couch, give him some pain killers, and put an ice pack on his knee 20 minutes on, 20 minutes off for a few days!. DON'T let him "play" the minute the swelling starts to go down, that's why it hasen't gone away - it hasen't had a chance!.
If it's painful, give him the painkillers following the doctors orders EXACTLY!.
And do NOT put a bandage on him! If he's wearing that, it just keeps the fluid in there, doesn't give it a chance to go anywhere! I know you want him to look injured and like he needs sympathy, but take the bandage off asap!.
If multiple doctors "won't do anything about it" it generally means that nothing can be done at this time!. I'm sorry if this comes off as harsh but these days people go to the doctors expecting instant cures!. Unfortunately, that's not going to happen!. You need to listen to the doctor and make him rest it, do not let your son "play"!. Plus, a little swelling in the knee is not exactly the end of the world!. To be honest, your son probably "crys" about the pain because that's what he thinks he should do, since his parents are making a real big deal about it!. Just tell your son to sit around for a few days, and if he wants to play, then he has to deal with the pain!.
I don't know what else you want the doctors to do - immediately amputate his leg!? There are no "drugs" that just get rid of swelling, it takes time!.
So overall, just relax, and listen to the doctors - they know what they're talking about, even if you don't like their suggestions!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
