Question: What can i use to help sudden joint pain!?
Hi my boyfriend's shoulder and elbow joints have suddenly just started hurting really badly and we don't know how to ease the pain or what even caused it! We tried a heat rub called 'Transvasite' but he had an allergic reaction and is now covered in redness which may develop into a rash!. Can anyone suggest anything to help!? Your boyfriend needs to see a doctor!. Three years ago, the same thing happened to me, and I was eventually diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis!. Because your boyfriend hasn't suffered an injury, RA is a possibility (be aware there are over 100 arthritic conditions)!.
I also used a heat rub, and was immediately stricken with increased pain and inflammation!. This isn't an allergic reaction, it's just how some people with RA are affected by topical analgesics!.
As for the advice that your beau needs to try glucosamine and chondroiton, don't even consider its use until he has been diagnosed!. Then, speak with his doctor about this!. People who are allergic to shellfish should definitely not use g&c, and in some RA patients, the use of glucosamine and chondroiton makes matters worse by increasing the amount of fluid in the joints!.
RA is an autoimmune disorder in which the body's immune system produces too much synovial fluid, resulting in the eventual destruction of the joints!. It's imperative he see a doctor before doing anything other than taking ibuprofen or naprosyn for pain!.
