Flash burn in eyes from welding arc!

Question: Flash burn in eyes from welding arc
My teenage son was welding his friends exhaust last night and his eyes are burning!. He said he had a mask on, but lifted it 2 or 3 times!. His vision is blurry and his eyes are bloodshot and puffy!. He has been in bed all day with his eyes closed and said he feels better and his vision is clearer!. I had him put potatoes on his eyes for a while!. My question is, should I wait it out and see if he gets better, or should I take him to the doctor now!. We have no health insurance!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
Wait it out They can't really do anything about it except give him some drops for the pain!.

You did the best thing with the potato!. It will improve after about 24 hours or at least that's the way its been for me when i burned mineWww@Answer-Health@Com

Call your doctor!. His symptoms are consistant with flash burns to the eyes caused by the strong UV light produced by the welder!. He will need profesional follow-up to help minimise any permenent damage- In addition to pain medication they may give him anti-inflamatory & antibiotic drops to help reduce the chances of scarring & infection!. The UV light produced by a welder can burn not only the exterior surfaces of the eye, but can cause damage to the retina and assosiated structures!. When welding NEVER lift your mask when an arc is present and ALWAYS wear long sleeves (+ a full face mask) to protect your skin from UV exposure & hot slag!.

ouch, i had to weld in school for a credit and i did that, it hurts very bad, but wait it out, and he will start getting crusty things around his eyes (like when a sun burn peels) kind of like sleep in your eye!. itwill get better, a cool wet wash cloth over my eyes made it feel alittle better, try that!. i also put visine in which is a lot cheaper than a dr visit!. Call and see if you can get him some eye drops and put patches on his eyes for 24 hours!. He has got to be in a lot of pain and discomfort!. If it were me, I would take him to the er anyway!. Flash burns are the worst to have!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
