Is your GP pleasant towards you?!

Question: Is your GP pleasant towards you!?
My GP never seems to take me seriously!. She's always quite patronising and disinterested!. I now have a problem which needs attention, but I am reluctant to go there as I hate being treated as some kind of neurotic time waster!. I hardly ever go to the doctors and never waste their time, but I still feel like a nuisance!.

Why do they treat you like a moron!? I'm a qualified nurse - do you think that this puts them off!? Most of the doctors in the Practice are like this!.

Is unpleasantness a characteristic of GPs and if so, how to overcome it!?

I have taken to treating myself for most things, but do struggle sometimes!. Www@Answer-Health@Com

Mine is so wonderful that I've been seeing him for 20+ years!. He used to have a partner whom I saw when mine had to be away!. When they got separate offices, miles apart, I stayed with my current one!. Yours must think that because you're a nurse that you can diagnose your own problems!. If you're so uncomfortable then you really need to find someone you can trust & won't make light of situations that obviously concern you!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Speak to her as if she is NOT speaking down to you!. In other words, be your own natural, intelligent self !.!.!. treat the doctor like your equal!. Smile and greet her, and thank her when you leave, even if you really feel like punching her on the nose!. Then, even if the relationship doesn't improve, you won't have let the patronising treatment get between your ears!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

The last time I went to my GP was when I was having trouble sleeping!. Mum told me to go!. She tried to force me to talk but I didn't want to!. I always have the feeling that she will tell my parents what I say!. I hate going to her!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

My GP thinks that I am faking an illness, I don't like him much Www@Answer-Health@Com

If it was not for my GP I would be dead years ago! When push came to shove he was willing to throw me in his own car and drive me three hours to a City Hospital!. Thankfully I have always had a good relationship with him, but he is my distant cousin!. He then located a large tumor on his face, had surgery, so is not keen to see Patients now!. Therefore I see another GP, who is a Sports Doctor, licensed to kill and excellent in looking after my Arthritis!. Is he unpleasant!? Well the first time I saw him, I was in serious upper leg pain, so while he donned some gloves he asked me to hop up on the couch and drop my trousers!. I did as asked, except the hop bit!. He turned around and said 'Did we forget something this afternoon!?' I am thinking, got the shopping, put gas in the car, just have the news paper to pick up and replied 'No, not that I can think of why!?' He replied 'Under clothes perhaps!?' I replied 'Hey look, the legs were only going to go up once, so the choice, under clothes or track suit bottoms, I chose track suit!. However if you prefer under clothes, next time I will just were them, as long as if I am stopped by the Police, you will explain why!?' He then diagnosed 'Typical footballers injury, groin strain' where upon I said 'But I do not play football!?' We tend to give each other as good as we get, but he knows that if he has a trainee Doctor he can rely on my to put them through the medical ringer and I allow them to inject me, not that they want to, but as I say 'Look at some point you are going to have to give some patient an injectio, so why not start now!?' Other times I have been called in because they have another visiting GP, and they want to show me off!? The visiting GP gets to see my medical file, reads it all moring knowing I am coming in!. However what they expect and what arrives are so far removed from the expected reality, it kinda throws them off!. I also do the Pathology Run, as home is on route past Pathology and if they have a call out to a House, I will go along to observe!. Might just be to make sure the car is safe, or if the Patient is home alone!. No I do not think being a qualified nurse puts them off, however my Mother is a qualified Nurse and when it comes to her health problems, tends to panic!. I have the morphiene hot line because I am on Fentanyl, a mobile telephone number where I can contact a GP 24/7!. Anyway one morning Mother was unable to breath, insisted I contact the GP, so I did!. The GP arrived, examined Mum, told her to calm down their was nothing wrong, just a small chest infection, for which they gave her some antibiotics!. I guess the rest was Mother panicking, because the GP kinda looked at me!?
