Question: Is it normal to give a newborn a low dose of morphine to handle withdrawal from Percocet!?
My first foster son just became a father and he says his son was born addicted to legally prescribed percocet!. The hospital now has his baby on a low dose of morphine!. He called asking me if this is normal!. I'm not a Doctor, but it sounds like it may be something stronger that percocet that the child is withdrawing from!. Can someone help me answer his question!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Giving newborn morphine is a pretty standard way of preventing withdrawals from any opiates including Percocet!. Percocet is quite strong and can give rise to withdrawals in the newborn if the mother was on Percocet during pregnancy!. It does not have to be heroin to justify the use of morphine!. Just relax and hope that the baby recovers soon!. He seems to be in good hands at a center that feels confident enough to treat opiate withdrawals in the newborn!. They will gradually and carefully take him off of morphine when they feel it is appropriate and safe!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
tell him to go to the pharmacy and see for sure if that dose is going to harm the child!. if so he needs to go back up there and tell the docs to get a different medication type!. b/c if that doesn't work then that child will be sick!. byeWww@Answer-Health@Com
