Options for a knee injury... any ideas?!

Question: Options for a knee injury!.!.!. any ideas!?
my bf went to the hospital today to have x-rays done on his knee which he injured 10 years ago playing football and then re-injured about 2 years ago playing ice hockey!. he also used to run alot (about 15 miles a day) and that has caused alot of aggravation on his joints!. he is taking glucosomine and having electro therapy done on it but he still wants to work out!.!.!.is swimming his only option because of his injury!? i suggested the elliptical but since it hurts him to stand for a few hours/ walk around i don't know if that would be smart!. he has a weight bench at home but as far as cardio goes!.!.!. is swimming his best/only option!?

he does have a knee brace but very rarely wears it and he can't run with it on!. he has no cartilage left in his knee and his knee cap and bones are grinding together and wearing away the bone!. hes only 21 and is looking at surgery as a last option so now hes taking medicine and going to physical therapy

any ideas!? Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
With the condition of your bf, having no cartilage on his knee!. Jogging to much will put too much stress on the already malfunctioning knee!. It would be better if he try cycling or other low impact exercise for his knee!. Swimming is an option because it put no impact on the knee!. Because of his condition, he must find alternative exercise and modify his active lifestyle to conform on his injured knee!. If not surgery would be definite!. Doctors would put artificial cartilage on his knee, and rehabilitation can take about 4-6 months!. Return to his pre-surgery functional level would depending on his response to rehabilitation!.

Hope this help you in one way!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
