Answers:
use RICE phenomena, i!.e!.,
- Rest to your ankle
- Ice application for at least 10 minutes
- Compression by means of crepe bandage
- Elevation of your ankle above your heart level with pillow support while you are lying!.
and your question was, which one is best ice or heat pad or both!. my answer is, ice is the best one to treat muscle strain or ligament sprain!. but heat pad also used to reduce pain!. the name contrast bath implies, using the both heat and cold alternatively which also reduce pain!. but, better to use ice in reducing the pain and swelling especially for your ankle twist or roll or sprain,!.!. get well soon!.

the best thing to do is to elevate your ankle above heart, apply ice for fifteen minutes, take off for 15 minutes and so on!.!.!.!. the elevation helps the swelling a lot because blood does not rush as fastWww@Answer-Health@Com

An alternative is to read and apply http://www!.helium!.com/tm/148271 and fix the damaged tissue!. Applying cold will treat the symptom of swelling but do nothing for the real problem of tissue damage!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Ice it for the first few hours to reduce swelling!. Also elevate it above the heart!.
Use heat the next day to promote healing!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

i would say to ice it thats normally what works when i have something pulled or strainedWww@Answer-Health@Com
