My right knee pops out of its socket?!

Question: My right knee pops out of its socket!?
last night i was sitting on the bed, cross legged (indian style or whatever you wanna call it) and some how when i leaned to the side my knee shifted out of place!. the muscles in my leg could not get it to bend and each time i tried it caused unbearable pain!. when i finally got it back in place it made this loud thud/knock!. afterward it seemed back to normal!. then it happened again and i couldn't get it back for a few minutes!. now it really aches below my knee cap!.

this has happened to me at least 10 times throughout my entire life (i'm 17) but it has never been sore!. the only other problem ive had with my knee was 3 or 4 months ago!. the doctor said i had some kind of muscle strain from too much exercise and it would cause pain when i bent my leg all i was told to do was rest and keep it straight for 2 weeks but it never healed %100!. i doubt that is related to this but thought it might be useful to know!.
so does this happen to anyone else!?
what can i do to prevent this from happening again!?
and what can i do help my sore knee!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

The answer to this has many possible reasons and treatments, so go to the website below for a much more extensive explanation!.

It SOUNDS like you have a dislocated kneecap, aka "patellar subluxation"!. There are many causes, one of which is too much exercise or strain on the joint!. Another common cause is a malformation of the groove in which the kneecap slides up and down!.

Chondromalacia (an irritation of the cartilage) can also be the culprit!. But a doctor must determine whether that's CAUSING the subluxation or whether it results from it!.

Usually, they start with x-rays to see if it really IS dislocated, then possibly stabilize it with a brace, rest and anti-inflammatory drugs to see if it improves!. If this doesn't work, sometimes, surgery is necessary!. They check (using an arthroscope, a tiny, fiber optic camera), to see what's going on in the ligaments!. If they're too lax or malformed, they can be cut and re-formed to hold in the kneecap!.

At any rate, DON'T start exercise again until you see an orthopedist! Too many people make the mistake of exercising again after a bit of rest and it just makes it worse!. I know from experience and it took much longer to recover, though I was quite athletic and used to doing triathlons and bike racing (cycling, btw, is VERY hard on the knees)!. So, being fit could actually worsen your condition, as you may push your joints harder than the average person!.

Good luck!

I have the same exact problem, except mine always seem to happen when I'm out of town, and have no access to a doctor or knee brace!. Now I have to wear the brace whenever I do sports or basically whenever it hurts a little!. My advice would be to get a knee brace!. And you should do some strengthening exercises!. I hope I helped!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
