Is it normal for skin to heal over stitches?!

Question: Is it normal for skin to heal over stitches!?
I had surgery a about a week ago on my right ear!. They had to make an incision behind it, thus stitching it back up in order to heal!. I was just wondering if it is normal for the skin to heal OVER the stitches!? I'm assuming these may be the ones that dissolve on their own!? I didn't get the chance to ask my doctor after surgery and I wont be seeing him for another few days!. Thanks!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Don't worry, you'll be fine! :) Sound like perhaps you have either dissolve-type stitches or stitches that will be removed at a later appointment!. And I won't lie to you, if they are to be removed, it kind of feels like worms under your skin when they grab on and pull them out!. Gross! But it only lasts for a second!. It doesn't hurt, it just feels weird!.

So anyway, my 2 cents worth!.!.!.
I was born with bi-lateral cleft lip and have had countless plastic surgeries and the one thing I have learned is that an incision is an incision and will inevitably cause a scar!.

If you are worried about scarring and the unsightliness of it, use plenty of Neosporin and I also recommend any kind of oils or lotions heavy in coconut/coco butter!. Coconut works wonders! (FYI: Also good for preventing pregnancy stretch marks if rubbed over the belly everyday during pregnancy)

I may not look exactly like everyone else, but I am happy with the results!. The distraction for people that look at me close up is NOT my scarring, but rather the slight distortion of my facial features!.

For example!.!.!.

A sample pic of the birth defect I was born with (may be disturbing for some viewers): http://www!.biomedcentral!.com/content/fig!.!.!.

AMAZING, isn't it!?!!?

I am also tattooed and use coconut extracts to speed up the healing and to retain the colors of my new tattoos!.

Good luck! Be glad you have less worries than others!. :)Www@Answer-Health@Com

Sure, many times degradable stitches are used!.
Since the incision is in a fairly well hidden place, it makes sense that dissolving stitches would be used!.
In any case, there is nothing to do now, just keep it clean, and wait until you see the doc!. Then you will get the answers!.
BTW these answers should have been written in your "discharge summary"!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

well its ok for some to grow over!. but if they arent the dissovable ones then it might hurt when they take it out!. When i had surgery on my knee, the skin grew over one of the stitches and it hurt a little when they took it out because they had to dig it!. if its deep, get it looked at!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

yes!. follow up with the surgeon!. most surgeon's have phones, so call!!Www@Answer-Health@Com
