When will these hearing aids stop hurting me?!

Question: When will these hearing aids stop hurting me!?
I am new to hearing most all of these sounds as I have been deaf most of my life!.

Its very scary for me to hear sounds and noises I never heard before in life!.

One deaf person I know said because my hearing loss in each ear is not the same there will be some kind of unbalance between the two as far as the hearing aids and trying to hear goes!.

I am not sure if that is true, but I do have profound hearing loss in the left ear and severe in the right and the graph is not identical for each on my latest audio-gram!.

I read online that is takes 1-2 months to become acclimated to new hearing aids!. Is that true!?

I have also heard that it takes time for the body, brain and ears mostly, to adjust to the new sounds and sound levels!. Is that true as well!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
usually it does take a good 4 to 6 weeks to get used to hearing aids!. however your audiologist should not have given you full power!. especially if this is your first time wearing hearing aids!. your hearing systems is overwhelmed right now!. it has not heard sounds either in awhile or ever and it takes a while to get used to and comfortable hearing those sounds!. right now your brain is paying attention to everything, kinda like a kid in a toy store!. after awhile your brain will settle down and not pay attention to everything!. it will learn to tune certain things out!.

i strongly recommend that you return to your audiologist (please tell me you went to an audiologist and not a hearing aid dispenser) and tell him/her your concerns!. in the mean time if you have a volume control or program button turn it down!. try a wear schedule- wear the aids a few hours a day and increase a little each day!.

as far as the difference between your ears that doesnt matter with good hearing instruments that is digital or at least computer programmable the audiologist should set them so they are balanced!. the goal is to get you to hear at a normal hearing level!. However dont expect to be at that level within the first 6m to year !. it takes time and multiple reprogramming!.

Unless you have differences in how you perceive speech in your ears!. Are you under 18y!. How is your speech perception with such a great loss!? (just wondering) If so, you need to also be seeing a speech pathologist!.

good luck!Www@Answer-Health@Com
