Question: Any fast relief tips for carpal tunnel!?
my wrist/hand hurts so bad :( i cant sleep!. is there any self help tips for fast temporary relief!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
Take some pain reliever of some kind for one!. If you have an ace bandage you can bandage it up tight and the pressure will help!. Don't leave it on too long or you'll cut circulation though!. Try to get some to wrap it with to get some pressure bc that makes it feel better!. I hope you can sleep soon!. =(Www@Answer-Health@Com

The term 'carpal tunnel' is also used quite commonly to refer to 'carpal tunnel syndrome' which is a condition where the median nerve is compressed within the tunnel and causes pain and/or numbness of the wrist/hand, never proven to be the result of repetitive motion such as painting or typing!. It has been shown to be associated with obesity, hypothyroidism, diabetes, pregnancy, family history, rheumatoid arthritis and wrist shape!. It can be associated with certain fractures of the forearm and wrist!. Work relatedness is less than is currently thought by the lay public and by non-hand surgeons!. Even work that has high force and high repetitions is only partially related to the development of carpal tunnel syndrome!. The carpal tunnel is important because the median nerve can be compressed in cases such as the following:

Carpal tunnel syndrome
Wrist dislocations
Fractures around the wrist

Sounds like you need to think about solving this in the long term, or you'll be in pain for ever!.

This self help group found:

"Some treatments were moderately or very successful for most who tried them, with very little or no adverse effect!. These were:

* Bowen Therapy
* Alexander Technique
* Tai Chi
* Self Hypnosis

Treatments with adverse effects on more than 20% of those who tried them included:

* Swimming
* Carpal tunnel surgery
* Local anaesthetic injections
* Traction (the standout villain!)
* Stretches from a physio
* Cortisone injections"

The point is that many of the short term fixes end up making it worse!.

I still get the odd twinge when typing too much, but then pay more attention to what I'm doing and it goes away!.

My Alexander Teacher was a cellist who had had to give up because of carpal tunnel syndrome!. She found the technique and is now touring more than ever!.

Good luck with it!.
