Last night, my friend threw a quarter and accidentally hit me in the eye!.!.!.luckily my eye was closed!.!.!.and today the area is tender, but not swollen!.

Is the eyelid or the cornea swollen!? If its the cornea, i would suggest going to an optometrist or ophthalmologist just to get it evaluated!. The epithelium could be damaged and its causing edema to the cornea!. Www@Answer-Health@Com

I think that you should have it checked just to be on the safe side, money can be very dirty by being held by so many people!.
For just 100% safe of mind id just go and be checked, being hit in the eye in some cases can be very serious as the eye area can become sensitive by very easy things!. If the tenderness goes away then maybe you'll be fine, but if it carries on and becomes swollen please go and be checked!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

YES! The coin could have had something on it, invisible to the naked eye, that could have irritated your eye!. If you don't go to a doctor, at least call and ask a nurse or someone who could help you!. The ridges on the coin could have irritated the eye, at least flush your eye and ask for advice from a nurse!. Www@Answer-Health@Com
i think you should just give it a little bit of time, don't rush to the doctor just yet!. if it doesn't get better in a few days, or it just gets worse then i recommend you go get that looked at!. but your eye is probably just bruised from being hit by the coin, if your eye had been opened i would be a little more worried but since it wasn't i'm sure your alright!. =]
