Sprained ankle advice, not much pain.?!

Question: Sprained ankle advice, not much pain!.!?
I sprained my ankle 2 days ago, went to the doctor they told me it was sprained and MAY have a tiny fracture but they werent sure if it was from a previous injury or not!.

Anyways they gave me a boot and crutches, but I can walk on the boot (and without it) okay!. I had to go back to college yesterday and I walked to class today from the parking lot without a boot!. Its starting to turn purple and my toes are swollen!.

Should I walk on it to class (only) or wear the boot thing!? Its very uncomfortable but if walking without it is going to be way worse then I would like to know!.

Thanks!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Wear the boot defiantly!. If it does not cause pain to walk with just the boot and know crutches go ahead but if it increases pain or swelling then use the crutches!. Be careful with trying to avoid the boot!. I sprained my ankle and had a small fracture too 8 years ago!. Apparently it never healed right because six months ago I started having some pain in my foot!. I went to the doctor because it was so severe!. He did an MRI and found out that it never healed and the nerve was pinched into scar tissue!. Now I have been wearing that stupid boot for 3 months and will have to have surgery next month!. All because I did not think I needed that boot 8 years ago!. I just wanted to share that story with you so that hopefully the same thing will not happen to you!. Also if you choose not to wear the boot it would be very easy for your ankle to give away while you are walking and that's the last thing you want to happen because that slows healing and would dramatically increase your pain!.

Best of luck and wear that boot,

Definitely give that ankle as much of a break as possible!. I've done this a couple of times, and walking on it too soon without support makes it much worse!. (I'm still recovering from the last one, a month ago!)

Use the boot and crutches even if it's uncomfortable!. You'll thank yourself later! Anything to keep pressure on the ankle is good!. Also rest/ice/elevate it as much as possible (at least once a day for a good while, but they recommend 15 minutes every 2 hours)!. This will help with pain, swelling and bruising!. You can take Ibuprofen/Motrin if it hurts, as it reduces swelling as well as pain relief!.

Be careful doing sport!.!.!. since it's been sprained, the tendon is weak at the moment and it's easy to turn the ankle and sprain it again!. Get some kind of brace and/or tape your ankle to give it extra support, just so you don't sprain it again!.

Good luck!Www@Answer-Health@Com
