You will probably get some very silly answers to your question with people trying to be smart, which will do nothing for your confidence!. Just ignore them!.

If you can try to have a bowel action before you see the doctor it will empty the rectum and therefore reduce the pressure that you feel from the examination!.
The doctor will ask you to lie on your side, usually the right side - due to the shape of the bowel!. You will then be asked to bring your knees up toward your chest!. The doctor will digitally (with his finger), examine just inside your anus and rectum!.

This should feel uncomfortable rather than painful, but if you find it painful let the doctor know!. It might also help to have some simple pain relief - like paracetamol, before you have the exam!.

The doctor may elect to use a sigmoidascope to examine further up the rectum at this time, as it provides a visual rather than a 'by feel' examination!. But if this is offered to you try not to worry, it's a very simple procedure and should be no more painful than the digital examination!. Rigid sigmoidoscopies for rectal exams are usually performed without any sedation/anaesthetic because they don't take long and don't go into the bowel far!.

The best advice that I can give is going to be the hardest one to do!.
RELAX during the exam!!!

Most findings with the signs and symptoms you describe are usually just hemorrhoids, which while very annoying can be easily treated!.

Good luck!. Www@Answer-Health@Com

If you are having pain and bleeding, it would be foolish for the Doctor to start probing around up there!. The Doctor will probably ask you some questions and if he/she feels they better take a look, they will order for you what they call a lower G!.I!. You go to the x-ray dept, and they give you some chalky drink to swallow and then in about a half hour, an x-ray will be taken!. If anything looks suspicious, they will order a colonoscopy, which you will be given laxative the night before to cleaan your colon out, then you will be sedated through an I!. V!. and when you wake up,it will be done!. If there is anything there they can take care of, they will and you won't even know it!. The only thing they place their finger in a man's rectum for is to check the prostate!. Could be that you just need a good bowel movement, because if you have anything up there that you have to strain to get out, that will cause you to bleed and could possibly cause hemmorrhoids, but along with the pain and bleeding you should have a rectal itch with those!. I wish for you the very best sir and surely hope you find the problem and it's only minor!. But don't be scared, none of those exams are painful, maybe give you a bloated feeling, but that's all!. Good luck!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Nah!. If it's just an office visit, it won't be really painful!. If you're constipated, take a cheapo Fleet enema!. You can buy the generic at any drug store for a buck!. But if you take a good poop, you have nothing to worry about!. The doctor will put on a glove, and feel around in there!. Just relax, think about something lovely, and it'll be over!.
Don't be scared!. No reason to be!. You probably just have a hemorrhoid!. S/he will give you some suppositories, and end of story!. He might put you on Metamucil or something, and you should drink lots of water!.
If you are constipated, you can take a laxative like Dulcolax the night before!. The enema works right away!. I prefer that, but it doesn't matter!.
Bless you and good luck!. ;)Www@Answer-Health@Com

Of course youre going to be scared!.!.!. Its okay to be scared!. Say, Hey doc!.!.Im not real comfortable here!.!.!. they will do what they can!.!.!.
Try to relax!. There is a very good chance it is nothing serious!.!.!. better safe then sorry!. But, realize it may be the first time for you!.!.but a doctor has probably done it more times than he can count on one finger!.!.!.
However, speaking of fingers!.!.!.ask for the doctor with the smallest ones!.!.!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
