Could it be a broken thumb?!

Question: Could it be a broken thumb!?
Yesterday my thumb was extremely painful to move from bent to straight but it didn't hurt at all to bend it!. But today it only hurts to bend!. The bottom joint has a very pronounced vain on it that wasn't there before the pain but it doesn't hurt to press on the vain!. Another thing that's happened is that there is a dimple just on the outside of the vain that is not on my other thumb (which is fine)!. The dimple becomes more pronounced when I bend the thumb and looks a little like something has collapsed inside it!. I've broken about 12 bones in the past and they've all swollen and been hot to the touch a few hours after breaking - the thumb has done neither!. I don't know also if I should be able to move it painlessly in certain directions!.!.

I don't remember hurting it specifically but then I walked around for two days with three broken fingers before I decided to wrap them up!. My thumbs are double jointed so they push in the wrong direction pretty easily and I do a lot of technical work so it could have been injured without me noticing!. All the best injuries are the ones you do and then half an hour later you notice you're bleeding!.

Sorry for the ramble, I just can't find any answers anywhere else!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
THUMBS ARE NOT LIKE OTHER BONES THEY ARE SMALLER ,SO YOU WOULDN'T SEE A LOT OF SWELLING OR BRUISING, BUT ARE ARE EASILY DISLOCATED AND SLIP BACK INTO POSITION BEFORE YOU NOTICE ANYTHING, ALSO THERE IS THIS LITTLE BONE THAT YOU CANT SEE ON ANY X-RAY THAT CAUSES PAIN IN THE THUMB JOINT SO ORTHO DOC WOULD PUT YOU IN A CAST JUST FOR BEING ON THE SAFE SIDE ,IT IS A PAINFUL BONE TO BREAK AND DOESN'T HEAL VERY WELL ,THEN ITS SURGERY TIME THE LAST RESORT,SO GIVE IT A FEW DAYS IF NOT BETTER GO SEE ORTHO DOC ,GOOD LUCK MATEWww@Answer-Health@Com

If you're worried about it, get yourself along to a doctor or casualty dept!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I broke my thumb a little over six months ago and it was really wierd, not like the other broken bone I've had (I broke my arm as a kid)!. I injured it in a fall and thought I had just jammed it (I actually bent the thumbnail back and it was bleeding like crazy so to be honest that was my more immediate concern)!. It wasn't until the next day that I thought something was probably pretty wrong, it was swollen and bruised (it bruised like CRAZY overnight) and it turned out that I had broken it in two places!.

To be honest I didn't think it was that painful until a day or two after the injury and I think that was more because of the splint I had to wear than anything else (immobilization was what it needed obviously but it was pretty painful)!. Because I broke the tip (the proximal bone) I COULD move it in certain directions without pain but I couldn't bend it at all!.

I'd go to the doctor if I were in your shoes, just to be sure!.

Good luck!Www@Answer-Health@Com
