Most hormonal migraines are due to the sudden drop in estrogen that allows for your period!. So, I am assuming that is the time when you get your migraines!.!.!.!?
In that case, changing pills may reduce the chance of migraines, if the pill is lower in estrogen!. Were you on another pill that didn't give you migraines!? If so, why did you switch!?
I have this problem!. I tried the pill that you take for 3 months in a row, to reduce the migraines I got to 3 or 4 a year, but they did not work for me because I had severe break-through bleeding, and bleeding with intercourse!.
I tried the patch!. Did not like that!.
I also tried the copper IUD!. It had no hormones, and my natural cycle is 40 days, so it was better than getting a migraine every 28 (like on the pill)!. My natural drop in estrogen was not as severe as on the pill, so the migraines were not either!. But the IUD was not liked by me or my husband, so I yanked it out!
I am back on a pill now, but on advice from my doctor, I take a steady dose of Ibuprofen (800mg every 8 hrs) for the entire week leading up to my migraine - since it is predictable!.
There is something in Ibuprofen that inhibits the chemicals that cause the migraine!. It doesn't work for a migraine already started, but if you have it in your system BEFORE it does, it will block these evil little chemicals!. It works!. I can still feel the migraine in my body - but the head throbbing and light sensitivity and all that fun stuff, doesn't come with it!. You just feel a bit "fuzzy" for a day or so, when you would have otherwise been completely debilitated!.
GOOD LUCK!Www@Answer-Health@Com
