I can't fall asleep at a decent time anymore! Help?!


Question: I can't fall asleep at a decent time anymore! Help!?
I'm 13 and my "bed time" is 10 PM during school!. last year i used to fall asleep at 10 and i would be so tired!. Now i am not tired at all at 10 and I end up falling asleep between 11 and 12 and I wake up the next day tired!.

Why am I going to bed later just because i'm in a different grade!? its really annoying :(Www@Answer-Health@Com

1) Are you taking short naps during the day!?
2) Are you doing less physical activities!?
3) Has there been a change in your diet!?
4) Are you taking caffeine!?
5) Is there something bothering you!? You might not be aware of it but even a slight change in environment (new classmates, an increase in schoolwork) causes stress and that affects your sleeping patterns!.

If you answered yes to any of the above questions, adjust your lifestyle or eating habits accordingly!.

Here are some tips that might help:
1) Don't take a warm bath in the evenings -- it keeps you alert!.
2) Avoid stimulating activities half an hour before it's time for bed!. No computer, TV, PSP, reading, etc!. Take some time to relax and calm yourself!. Folding clothes would be a good option!. :)
3) Dim the lights! Light bulbs are the reason why we sleep so much later than our ancestors!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I'm a big time night owl and get most of my work, study, and cleaning done at night because for some reason thats when I'm super awake!. during school this is a huge problem for me!. I'm never tired the first couple weeks of little sleep, but eventually it hits me and I just wanna sleep all day!. I used a sleep aid for about a week (using it longer than that can cause even worse sleeping habits) and went to bed at the same time every night!. I figure out exactly what time I need to go to bed in order to get 8 hours of sleep!. I'm in college so sleeping in is never an option and I need to be awake and alert for my classes to actually learn!. Since you are 13 and pretty much at the peek of your growing your body probobly requires more sleep which explains also why you may be tired all the time!.!.!. try taking a sleep aid at dinner time or an hour or so before you need to go to bed and see how it goes!. good luck!Www@Answer-Health@Com
