Can I take pain meds before numbness wears off?!

Question: Can I take pain meds before numbness wears off!?
I got oral surgery earlier this morning!. About three hours have passed!. My left cheek is still very numb (along with my tongue and ear)!. I've been eating ice cream (as recommended) so my stomach would be more or less "full!." I also just took some antibodies!.

Can I take my pain medications (a replacement for vicodin) in a little bit!? I know it will hurt once the numbness wears off, and I heard this medicine may take a while to work!. Is it okay to take it maybe an hour before the numbness is gone!?

The dentist told my dad, but my dad doesn't understand English very well!. (I was knocked out when they were giving instructions!.) I would call the dentist but it's hard for me to open my mouth and talk!.

Thanks!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
Yes, the medicine used to numb your mouth and your pain medicine work in completely different ways and you won't get any negative interactions between them!. Its probably a good idea to do it the way you're planning to, just take the oral pain medicine as soon as you start to feel the numbness going away, that way it should be taking effect by the time the pain sets in!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Yep!. It's called preemtive analgesia!. As long as any potential side effects from the pain medication are not prohibitive, you will likely be OK to take the pain medicine sooner than later!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Try and wait until you start to feel it wearing off!. You may not experience the amount of pain you are anticipating!. Www@Answer-Health@Com

Yes, it's ok!. It won't work as well if you let the pain become too intolerable!.!.!.!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
