Is it safe to give rubbing alcohol pads to first graders?!

Question: Is it safe to give rubbing alcohol pads to first graders!?
My six year old went on a field trip to a hospital last Friday!. Without my knowledge, they sent home isopropanol alcohol pads with her!. Later, I caught her trying to feed it to the family dog!.

I called her teacher first thing on Monday to make her aware of the dangers of putting a toxic substance into the hands of a child!. Unfortunately, the teach refused to accept any responsibility or that there may be a danger, although she affirmed that bottles of rubbing alcohol explicitly state "Keep out of reach of children!." She even had the audacity to imply that I'm responsible for knowing what my child brings home, even though she facilitated the transaction of the substance into the hands of my child!. Ultimately, the teacher chose to do nothing about it!.

Strangely enough, we even questioned a parent of our child's classmate and they even failed to see the importance of the situation!.

So my intentions here are to inquire about your feelings with this matter!. Note that isopropanol is a highly toxic substance!.

My feelings are that if my six year doesn't understand the implications of feeding it to a dog, another child could potentially feed it to a younger sibling, whether as a joke, out of ignorance or otherwise!.

Thanks!.
P!.S!.
I did call the hospital and talk to someone that sounded quite alarmed with the issue!. She said that she would do what she can to make the appropriate changes!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
If you are not getting much of a response from the teacher, I would contact the principal or school district regarding the issue!. my feeling about it is better SAFE than sorry!. This is a small child who does not understand the consequences and the school should be responsible regarding student safety!. See if you cant find a website with the school or your state reguarding student safety rights!. perhaps your childs teacher needs refreshed on this concept and yes it is part of her job!. that is absolutely rediculous!. I have even heard of children getting poisoned by useing too much hand sanitizer!. My kids teachers control it by keeping the bottle on there desk and dispening it in small amounts to the students so poisoning doesnt occur!. I am appalled this teacher is taking this attitude with you!. I would definately get her attention by looking up state laws and school rules reguarding student safety!. Good LuckWww@Answer-Health@Com

I would go to the principle or even the school board, Don't stop with the teacher!. She was responsible for these children and should know the rubbing alcohol is highly toxic!. Good luck and hopefully you will receive some answers from the school or the hospital Www@Answer-Health@Com

I wouldn't stop at the teacher! The principal and if necessary, the school board needs to be brought in!. The Hospital also needs to show more concern!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

r u serious!?
yup, the jury is out- she's a loon and can't be around little kids
they don't know that the dog mgith get sick from it

she is totally wrong!. teachers r responsible for what they give to the students but u r also responsible for what the kid brings home so u'd be doing ur job if u report her to the school board!. have a discussion with the principal, if nothing happens, go to the superintendent!.

alcohol pads have no place with a little kid!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
