Correct technique for wound swabbing?!

Question: Correct technique for wound swabbing!?
Hello everyone, i have a question regarding wound swabbing!. Iv just read a nursing journal on surgical site infections, and it clearly states that wound swabs should be taken from the pus of the wound to determine the optimal specimen for the lab staff to culture!. I was always taught to take samples from the juicey part of the wound and actually try and squeese some of the juices form the wound out to get a sample!. Just wondering what is the right way!?

Answers:
Where else would you get the pus!? If you're "squeezing the juices", you're getting a lot of interstitial fluids as well, and would lead to a more diluted sample!. You need to have the actual infection cultured, not the other fluids!. Hope this helps!
**EDIT** I guess you just need to ask the lab what exactly they want if they want you to get the culture for them!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
