What is the best way to stop a nose bleed? ?!

Question: What is the best way to stop a nose bleed!? !?
I spent most of my life in Maine, but now live in Tucson, Az!. The air is very dry here!. One problem I have is that strong sneezes sometime cause my nose to bleed!. So far, I have just treated it by holding a paper towel to my nose and letting any blood in the nostril clot, but this clot eventually triggers a compulsory reaction to remove it!. It is quite difficult to resist, but I often feel a need to blow my nose to dislodge it, and this sometimes causes my nose to bleed again!. Clearly, blowing my nose is not the right thing to do, but if possible, I would like a way to stop nose bleeds without letting such a large clot form in the first place!. Www@Answer-Health@Com

My wife and I are mixed on this question: What is the correct way to stop a nose bleed!?

"Your wife is correct!. Pinch the soft portion of the nose while leaning forward!. Adding a cold pack to the bridge of the nose can also help, since the cold will constrict the blood vessels slowing the blood flow and decreasing the pressure!. Slow blood flow also promotes clotting!. Do NOT pack anything into the nostril, until you've spoken with a qualified healthcare provider to show you how, you can make the situation worse if it's done improperly!. Placing a cold pack on the back of the neck is not always effective or appropriate!. Do NOT try to breath thru your nose as yearso0305 suggest, this will simply delay clotting, instead breath thru your mouth!.
Most nose bleeds will stop in ~15-30mins!. If it doesn't stop, the person begins to show evidence of shock (>HR, <BP, palor, etc), or other problems develop you should contact medical help!. This is especialy true for patients that are elderly, fluid comprimised, on anti-coagulant meds, etc!.
Nose bleeds can become a life threatening condition, I had an elderly patient who was on anti-coagulant meds and bleed for >1hr before the staff called 911, by the time we got there and loaded her for transport her BP was <90 with an altered mental status!. She wound-up being transported emergency to the ED!.

Rosie R- Swallowing blood during a nose bleed will not "poison" you!. Blood is an irritant to the stomach, and will cause vomiting in sufficient quantities, but won't hurt you directly!."

To help prvent them- ask your doctor about a saline nasal spray to help prevent the dryness from happening!.

When you get a bloody nose, roll up some paper towel and lodge it up your nostril!. To avoid bloody noses in the future, it is a good idea to swab some Vaseline up there, as it keeps your nose from drying out!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

The quickest way to stop a nosebleed is to sit on a chair or on the edge of your bed and firmly pinch your nose closed!. Hold it closed for five to ten minutes!. By stopping the flow of blood, you will give it time to clot, which usually happens in a few minutes!. Don
