Question: How can I go to sleep w/o drugs or alcohol!? !?
I am so tired of having a hard time sleeping or waking up all night!. The only way is to close the window and heat up the room and sleep like a bear in hibernation!. Or alcohol, etc!.!.!.!.!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I have long struggled with this not being able to sleep situation!. I was addicted to methamphetamines for nearly 3 years!. (5yrs clean now)!.

I still have a lot of trouble getting to sleep!. Some of the things that have helped, non-drug related are!. 5-htp, the chemical found in turkey as well as a number of other foods!. You can pick it up at your pharmacy, super supplements or most grocery stores!. It increases mood, causes sleep, and also reduces appetite!. Though the only noticeable effect for me was slightly drowsy, if taken half hour or so before bed!.

Valerian root is also helpful!.

Now if you don't want to consume ANYTHING to get to sleep, I would try some breathing exercises, can be found on youtube, look up sleep meditation!. Also you can buy some pretty terrific mp3's for cheap from amazon!.com !.

I've found stretching, thoroughly, before bed along with a small amount of self massage can help!.

be relaxed, dont think about too much as that will keep you awake
just close your eyes, ensuring its dark and you will eventually fall asleep

practicing this regularlly will get your body used to sleeping properly

on the other hand, place lavender scents in your bedroom and its very calming and can often help you get to sleep!. showering in warm water helps to! also avoid caffeine and most foods before sleeping

I used to be fine, but i abused my sleep, and trust me if you gave me a time machine, if i could, i would go back!.

Because now it's harder to get to sleep earlier than before!.

Even if i go to bed, i'll lie there two hours, waiting to switch off, because i messed up my sleep pattern as a comp addict ;D

Just wake up earlier, because once i'm awake, i can't get back to sleep til im super tired again!.

Do more things in the day, like excersise, til you are so worn out you want to go to sleep earlier and wake up early again!.

That's what i'm doing, because i have school so!.!. try it :)

All very good suggestions have been made!. I have a couple more!. Celestial Seasons makes this "Sleepy time" tea!. That's helped me!. Also, listening to relaxation cd's has helped me tremendously!. Www@Answer-Health@Com
