Stiff neck, hurts EXTREMELY!?!


Question: Stiff neck, hurts EXTREMELY!!?
This morning I was putting on deodorant and lifted my left arm, put it down and felt a horrible pain in my neck/shoulder!. That was at 7:00 and now it is 11:00!. Whenever I tilt my head to the left it hurts or if I try to get up from my bed!. I tried to do neck rolls to loosen my muscles but the pain was too much!. I've taken Advil and that helped a little!. Can I do anything else to help!? I have my close friend's sleepover party today that I need to go to!. Will it be okay then!?

When I stand up straight, my left shoulder (the one that hurts) is resting lower than my right (the one that feels fine) and my head is tilting slightly to my rightWww@Answer-Health@Com

A Stiff neck can be caused by many things- sleeping in an awkward position, working in one position for too long, turning your head quickly in a position that causes pain, being involved in car accident, trauma to the neck and even a random thing like lifting your left arm to put on deodorant!. It can cause pain in the neck, decreased mobility and tight and stiff muscles!. It can affect you activities of daily living because it affects other muscles in your neck and upper back!. Advil may give you short term pain relief but it is not going to take care of the stiff neck!.

Here are some solutions to this stiff neck:
1) Use ice on your neck especially if this just happened (its acute)- ice will decrease inflammation, pain and create a more analgesic effect
2) Do some neck exercises- do these in the shower- do them only to the point of feeling a stretch, not to the point of pain!. http://www!.arc4life!.com/site/615058/page!.!.!. These neck exercises will involve flexing your head forward, backward, to the side and rotating from side to side!.
3) Use a natural pain relieving Gel like biofreeze- it helps with tight muscles
4) Consider seeing a chiropractor for faster pain relief- they will do an exam on you and even take x-rays if necessary!. You may have a misalignment in your neck or even in your mid back area that needs to get corrected!. They will look carefully at your posture and see what changes need to be made!.
5)Get a good cervical pillow to sleep at night!. This is important to make sure your head and neck are aligned correctly while sleeping!. Www@Answer-Health@Com

OMG! i did the same thing this morning shaving under my arms!. You might have pinched a nerve!. i do it all the time when I turn my neck a certain way!. Apply heat to relax the muscles and try dropping your head forward and rotate your neck in a circular motion, slowly!. you might hear a popping in your neck bones, but that's normal!. Do this a few times today and if it persists for more than 3 days or gets more difficult to move, then call the doctor!. you might need physical therapy!. That's if all else fails!. This is a classic presentation of a nerve impingement (pinching) that is caused by a misalignment in the neck!. As a result, all the nerves that are innervated ( supplied with energy) from the nerve that comes out by the misaligned bone in the neck, will be weak and painful!. A good chiropractor, should be able to help you with this!.

That doesn't sound to good!. My advice go to the doctors you may have ripped a muscle!. It happens a lot and the best thing to do is go to the doctors!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
