FIbromyalgia and the flu shot?!

Question: FIbromyalgia and the flu shot!?
For those of you with FMS what was YOUR decision!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
My decision was yes, to get the flu shot!. Now I'm rethinking that decision!. Last year about this time I was in the middle of trying to get my fibro under control!. I was swapping meds left and right, dealing with fatigue, fibro fog, pain, you name it!. So when I got the shot last year, who knows if it effected me!. Finally I started to feel some relief at the beginning of the new year (08)!. I've played with my meds and adjusted quite a bit over this year, but as long as I get sleep (meaning my 2 1/2 year old sleeps right) I'm much better!.

Admittedly, I have been dealing with a lot of stress and been overwhelmed lately, but I got the shot last Thursday, I started feeling the fog on Friday and felt yucky all weekend!. Today is Wed!. and I'm definitely in a major flair up!. I have pain, can't concentrate, stumble over my words, feel achy and fatigued, and feel like I haven't slept in days!. I'm working on my master's in epidemiology, so I know case studies aren't that useful, but for me, next year I don't think I'll be getting the flu shot unless my life is drastically different!.

Now, you should evaluate your own situation to see if it makes sense for you to get one!. I have a preschooler in daycare, so I am somewhat in a higher risk situation, but I think the effects outway my risk right now!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I don't have fibromyalgia but I don't recommend anyone getting the flu shot who is immunocompromised!. Fibromyalgia once thought to be an autoimmune disorder in which the body is attacking itself, considering the flu shot has adverse reactions including autoimmune disorders including gillian barre the risk of a person with fibromyalgia having an adverse reaction would be higher than someone with a typical CNS!.

The national vaccine information center website listed below states that those that are immunocompromised are at an increased risk for serious complications and may not get an adequate protective antibody response from it anyway!.

The flu vaccine still contains thimerisol-a mercury derivative which is the second most toxic substance known to man and known to cause neurological disorders!. The flu vaccine also contains formaldyhyde a preservative used in embalming fluid!.

There are tons of reasons not to get the flu shot, personally I don't know why anyone would get this shot!. There is a reason why it isn't mandated!.

Fibromyalgia is poorly understood by many!.

Just me in this world-thanks for the distinctionWww@Answer-Health@Com

Ask your doctor,,, do you really want to trust strangers guessing about your health!?!?!?

You think you hurt now just wait until you get the flu and add all those aches and pains,,,

if you check on the CDC website they are recommending everyone over 6 months to have one this year since they are predicting a bad flu season,

there is no reason not to get one and a bunch of reasons to get one,,, and NO you cannot get the flu from a flu shot!.

BTW,, here are two great links to fibromyalgia sites that are the best on the web

i've gotten it the last few years without a problem----most of the time it protects against the main flue strain of that year--there is still a possibility you will get a different strain--

but what would you rather do---risk getting the main, prevelant strain and the limited other strains

or just worry about getting the limited strains!.!.

fibromyalgia is NOT autoimmune--it is a disorder of teh central nervous system

autoimmune means the body attacks itself
the immune dysfunction of fibro is an over or under reaction to FOREIGN matter

and I can't afford to take the time off from work if i get sickWww@Answer-Health@Com

No!.!.!.I suffer too many allergies without adding to the problem!. Try some natural therapies instead!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

no flu shot!.Because the flu shot only protects you from that kind of flu,it does not mean you cannot get another kind!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
