I woke up this morning and my neck was hurting BAD!?!


Question: I woke up this morning and my neck was hurting BAD!!?
I woke up around 4:00 AM and haven't slept since cause I have this sharp pain in my neck!. I can't move it all the way back or to the left at all, the pain is unbearable!. I'm stuck with it in one position!.
I'm missing school because of this!.
I've tried massaging, wich hurt even worse, and a heating pad didn't help much!.

What can I do to be relieved of this!?!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

You probably just slept in a bad position!.!.!.this happens to everyone from time to time!.

The best things I can suggest are:

1- A hot shower, with the water heavily focused on your neck for a few minutes
2- Ibufrofen (Advil!.!.!.motrin)

Even these won't make it go away completely!.!.!.but they will lessen the pain!.!.!.the only thing that will relive this entirely is time!. Usually, every hour it feels a little better!.!.!.by mid to late afternoon you should be almost normal!. Tomorrow you should feel fine!.

FYI!.!.!.I highly doubt you need a chiropractor if this is a first time occurrence!. If this begins happening regularly, a chiro may not be the worst idea!. But this happens to even healthy people on occasion, and if its a freak occurrence, a chiro is probably an overreaction!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Pain that limits range of motion sounds a lot like inflammation to me!. Basically your musculature is swelled!. Applying heat at this time would really only serve to make it worse!. My suggestion is the opposite!. Use an ice-pack to get the swelling down!. If you tolerate them well, take an NSAID!. The strongest one I know of is Ketoprophen, but that could be a bit hard to find!. Try Aleve (Naproxen) or Advil (Ibuprophen) and combine it with Tylenol (Acetamenophen!.) Don't exceed the recommended adult dosage and be sure not to drink alcohol with this combination!. If that does not kill the pain or if the pain continues for more than 2 days, go see your doctor!. I used to have that happen to me quite often when I was younger!. It's some kind of neck cramp probably caused by the way you slept or your pillow!. I have to sleep on flat pillows otherwise I get that cramp!. The only thing you can really do is wait until it goes away!. It'll start loosening up pretty soon!. Hurts like heck, I know!. "Stiff Neck" I suppose,do not disturb it by massaging or rubbing with balms,do not strain it,just be under rest,sit upright and try to move your head left to right and vice verse much as possible,refrain from forcing through,this will be away after 48 hours!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Your pillow is the most likely cause!.

A professional massage can help the muscles relax a bit until they decide to release !. I had something like this a few weeks back!.
A pain reliever can help in the meantime!. Www@Answer-Health@Com

You slept wrong and you now have a crick in your neck!. Take some tylenol or ibuprofen and soak in a hot bath!. It will get better as the day goes on!. Warm moist heat is best!. Hope this helps!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Your neck is probably out of alignment!. You can go to a chiropractor if you don't feel comfortable trying to crack it yourself!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
