I used to work in a busy bar for a pair of real seasoned drinkers and often they would pass on their wisdom to me (usually to sort me out if I came in to work hung over!)!. I never see hangover treatments as something that needs to be super healthy, just to do its job asap!.

Something with a lot of fat or oil (sausage, egg, bacon etc) really help absorb the alcohol and although aren't the easiest things to eat when you're sick they really do help (I usually try to eat greasy food before I go to sleep so I don't feel as bad when i wake up)!.

Orange juice is awesome to have not only because the vitamins will make you feel better but the sugar in it helps a great deal!.

Electrolytes: body salts lost when your drinking make you feel awful!. Gatorade, Powerade, Lucaszade sport are essential to have or even better Dioralyte or alternative electrolyte powders from the pharmasists (its used to treat people who have become de-hydrated due to illnesses, commonly vomiting or diarrhoea)!. It help your body re-hydrate and thus makes you feel loads better!.

Some people report that Andrews Salts or Eno's powder or equivalent help with this as well but it will also settle your stomach which is also a bonus (i think Alka-Setzer is this mixed with painkillers)!.

A slice of fresh ginger steeped in hot water is awesome for settling your stomach regardless of what you might have been doing to yourself the night before!.
A lot of people find that a little caffiene helps wether its coffee or coke although personally I dont like to drink too much, just enough for my head to clear up a little (i never drink caffiene normally, only for medical purposes)!.

Pain killers (paracetamol, Ibuprofen etc) are good not just because of their ability to get rid of headaches but also they lower your temperature and sooth inflammation!.

My usual tactic is to try and sleep it off or prop myself up in a comfortable position, drink plenty of water and watch crappy tv shows that don't need too much concerntration but are entertaining enough to stop you thinking about being ill ^___^ Www@Answer-Health@Com

Hiya,

water

The symptoms you're feeling post-drinking are signs of dehydration caused by the alcohol!. That's why you must rehydrate yourself by drinking a lot of water when you get up!.

Rehydrating your body is the key to recovering from the hangover, and this cannot be stressed enough!. You can even put some lemon in your water, it'll help soothe your stomach and will add vitamin C!.

When drinking water, avoid water that is extremely cold or hot; drink water at room temperature!.

coffee
Even though you're extremely tired and a cup of coffee seems like the best way to wake you up, try to stay away from it!.

Caffeine will only dehydrate you more, and since it's also a diuretic, it will not help your stomach!. Milk and other dairy products are also not a good idea; they may make you feel more queasy!.

ginger ale
If you don't want to drink water, try a glass of flat ginger ale, which helps soothe your stomach!.

juice
Juice is also a good idea; vitamin C will help give you the energy you'll need!.

feels like honey
Have some tablespoons of plain honey, or add some honey to your water or cup of tea!. It'll help soothe the dryness in your throat!.

make a toast
After drinking to just about every toast that could be made the night before, some slices of plain toast could be a good idea - avoid putting jam or butter on them!.

fruity fixes
Eating some fruit is also a good idea!. It'll be refreshing and give you the vitamins and energy you'll need to replenish your body!.

vitamins
If you're not having fruit or drinking juice, take vitamin C or another type of multivitamin!.

pills
Have an over-the-counter painkiller such as aspirin or ibuprofen, to help ease the headache!. Do Not have acetaminophen-based pills; these can be dangerous when mixed with the alcohol in your system!. Take the pills in the morning, not before going to bed when the alcohol is still prominent in your system!.

sleep
Either sleep in, or wake up and take any of the above-mentioned measures and go back to bed!. This is assuming, of course, that you have the luxury of sleeping in for that particular day!.

wash cloth
Another effective way to alleviate the pain is to lie in a dark room, with a cool compress on your head!.

Hope this helps - remember to drink plenty of water before you drink again and have a fairly substantial meal before you start drinking - this should help next time!
