It sounds like you pulled your calf muscles!. If you were doing more running than usual, which it sounds like you were, your muscles have to adjust to the extra strain!. Sometimes when you work out extra hard, muscle aches don't appear till the next day too!. Depending how bad you pulled them and what you do to heal them, it can take days to weeks for them to heal up!. But, by the sounds of it, I think it'll take about a week!.!.!.if you take it easy!.!.no more running till they heal!.

The cardinal rule for pulls, strains, and sprains is to R!.I!.C!.E!. That's Rest, Ice, Compress, Elevate!. I would also apply heat and cold, alternating every 15 minutes!. After you heat the muscles, which loosens it up, gently stretch the muscle!. If the pain is bad you could take an anti-inflammatory drug, check with doctor or pharmacist!.

After you're starting to heal up, start to gently strengthen your calf muscles, by going up and down on your tippy-toes, stretching and short walks!. Careful not to strain yourself, you want to fully heal, and be sure to stretch after warm-up!. When you start running, start to build up rather than going full out!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Ive heard of this before; it's from not enough stretching before you run!. (I know you probably stretch a little, but you really have to work at it until you 'feel the burn' as it's the best way to heat up the muscles prior to running)!.
Never run with cold muscles, as they tear easily!.
So basically, your muscles might be bruised and need to be iced for 10 minutes, then 10 minutes rest, and elevated several times a day!. Donot run until the bruising has settled!.
Grab a good book and take it easy til they recover!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
