What can I do to help my girlfriend with her back problems?!

Question: What can I do to help my girlfriend with her back problems!?
My girlfriend has minor scoliosis!. It's minor--less than 20 degrees, I think!. But since she has it, the muscles where her spine curves are always tight!. Some days it even causes her so much pain she has to take painkillers!. She also has temporomandibular joint (TMJ) syndrome, so her upper neck muscles seem to always be tight, too!. On top of that her shoulders are always killing her because she likes to lie down on the couch and, literally, hover above her laptop; but this is her fault because she chooses not to take my advice about good posture!.

I try to help by giving her a back massage a few times a week!. But I don't think I'm doing it right, because she never feels better no matter how long I work her back and the pain comes right back a day or two later!.

I'm a very light person and I don't work out anymore!. Are there any techniques I can use to efficiently massage my girlfriend's back!? I've tried a few amateur techniques, but they're not strong enough!. I'm sure her back pain will never completely heal as long as her scoliosis remains; but I don't want to see my girlfriend constantly in pain!. Not only does it break my heart, it's also cutting into our bonding time!. The pain makes her tired, I spend a lot of time massaging her back (that I feel my time goes to waste because it never works!. I do it so much, she almost EXPECTS me to do it), she whines constantly, and I've even developed back pain trying to give her deep massages!.

I wouldn't state this as an emergency or urgent!. But a solution to this minor dilemma would be much appreciated!. I think back massages are supposed to be relaxing, and even romantic!. I feel like that's been lost due to my girlfriend's back problems!. If I could find a solution to subdue her back pain more effectively, well, a back massage for our relationship could be considered romantic again!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
I can't believe she need to take painkillers to ease the pain!.

I've been suffering from scoliosis for almost 8 years!. Mine is thoraco-lumbar (S type)!. Thoracic is 42 degrees and Lumbar 48 degrees!. It's painful but I don't take painkillers!. I'm already a candidate for surgery!. But 2 doctors told me that it's really not advisable to undergo surgery!.

Here are some of the pain management doctors taught me:
-warm compress + electrical muscle stimulator
-placing pillow in the lumbar area
-therapies
-swimming
-massages (if your not a physical therapies, don't do it!. It will cause more pain for her!. )

I forgot the others!. Because I'm too lazy to do the pain managements!.
My father bought me this "body tractor", I just don't know if it's available in your place!. It costs more or less $350 if converted to US dollars!. It feels relaxing after using it and said to decrease the degree of the scolio!.

Brace is also recommended by the doctors!. But I dont wear mine!. It's VERY uncomfortable!. But doctors say that it prevents further curvature of the spine!.

I don't advice medical doctors for scoliosis!. All they say are the same, "SURGERY"!. I prefer chiropractitioners!. They are good doctors for pain management but is very much expensive than medical doctors!. Try also rehabilitation medicine, cheaper than chiropractic!.

You can email me if you want to ask something from my experience!. God bless!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

See needs to be seen by a physical therapist!. They will evaluate the back and see what specific movements are needed to help stabilize the back!. The movements are called counter de-rotation exercises!. The object is to strengthen those muscles at the apex of a curve and stop any further progression!. The stretching and strengthening movements are specific to each person!. Also while at home she must watch her posture and sit correctly at all times!. The problem is only going to become much worse with time and it will become very painful!. Hopefully she will take steps now to ensure a better quality of life!. Also posture to a large degree is a reflection of how the inner self is seen!. So when she is slouching it is a reflection that she is not thinking well of herself!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Only a doctor is going to be able to help your girlfriend - they will be able to make suggestions - braces, cortisone shots - to help her!. In the meantime, I think you should limit the massage time!. It isn't helping her and you are starting to resent the time you spend with no results!. Please try to get her to go back to the doctor - or see a new one!Www@Answer-Health@Com
