Question: Aspirin can cause Reye syndrome when given to children!.!. what age does this refer to!?
As in, when it says "children" is it like, up to 8 year olds, or 15 year olds, or basically, what age do you stop being a "child" (refering to this syndrome)

Also, what age is acceptable (safe) to start taking an aspirin say three times a week!. Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
OK, first, aspirin does NOT cause Reye's Syndrome!. There is just an association between taking aspirin during certain types of illness (flu, colds, chicken pox, etc) and those who then developed Reye's Syndrome!.

Second, it is not only children who can get Reye's Syndrome!. It can affect teens and adults as well!. It has just been more common in children and youth than adults!.

Third, you should never take ANY medication regularly without discussing it with a medical professional first!. This includes aspirin or other pain relievers, and even herbal or vitamin supplements!. What is going on that you think you would need to take aspirin three times a week!? There could easily be other, safer treatment options for you!.

Truthfully, nobody knows what causes Reye's Syndrome, so you can't know if you are "prone" to it!. It is not contagious, does not occur in one racial type more than another, and is very deadly (especially if not treated soon enough)!. Www@Answer-Health@Com

In school we learned that anyone can get Reye's Syndrome, not just children!. Also aspirin is not the 'cause' of it alone!. Reye's Syndrome is caused by taking aspirin either during or within 2 weeks of having a viral infection!. People do not always get it if they take aspirin within time frame though!. It is highly recommended not to give aspirin to children!.

Another thing that I learned was to not give aspirin to children before getting their vaccinations because it could mask Reye's Syndrome!. Instead you should give them Tylenol or Motrin!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

"The U!.S!. Surgeon General, the Food and Drug Administration, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the American Academy of Pediatrics recommend that aspirin and combination products containing aspirin not be given to children under 19 years of age"
You can get Reye's Syndrome anytime you take aspirin, first time, tenth time, ten-hundreth time!. However, taking aspirin does not automatically mean you will get Reye's Syndrome!.!.!.it doesn't cause it!. There's simply a correlation!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I wouldn't give aspirin to anyone under the age of 19!. Even teenagers can get Reyes syndrome!. Might check with your pharmacist or doctor!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
