Cymbalta for nerve pain?!

Question: Cymbalta for nerve pain!?

I am a 32 year old female, have 3 herniated discs in my back which cause nerve pain in my legs!. My neurologist gave me Cymbalta for the pain!. I told him I'm not depressed, and he insisted that he wasn't implying that I was depressed but that Cymbalta can help with nerve pain!. Has anyone ever heard of this or used Cymbalta for pain!? I feel like he is implying that I must be depressed (which I'm not) and that the pain is resulting from depression!.
