Irregular heartbeat. Should we go to the ER?!

Question: Irregular heartbeat!. Should we go to the ER!?
My 16 year old cousin is spending the weekend with my husband and I while her parents are out of country!. She was complaining of feeling unwell, headachy, dizzy and light headed, and way too hot!. I took her temperature and she has a slight fever (99!.8 F), and then she complained that her heart was beating weird!. Her resting heart rate (she had been sitting on the sofa for three hours an this point, and her heart was beating at 168 bpm,and in no particular consistent way (as opposed to mine which beats very rhythmically and consistently)!. She says she can feel her heart beating in her arms and back!. I am going to take her to the walk in clinic tomorrow morning, but I was jut wondering, everything is closed right now, do you think I should take her to the children's hospital ER!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
Yes!. It sounds like she's in what's called ventricular tachycardia, or "vtach", which is a possibly fatal heart arrythmia!. Go to the ER - if it is far from your house, call 911 now!.

bpm 168 is over double what it should be in an 16 year old who is resting!. Please go to the ER!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

With the fever I am prone to think that this is just a response to the fever/infection, but with a heartrate at 168 bpm you should call an ambulance because even if it is that she is just sick, she is very dehydrated and will continue to get worse!. You should take her to the E!.D!. immediately!. If it is a heart problem then she need medications to slow her rate down!. She could have an A-fib, SVT or some other problem!. I would take this seriously!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I don't really have knowledge of the subject but my heart beat is around 60 so if hers is at 168 i think she has a problem and you should probably go to the ER nowWww@Answer-Health@Com

Ask her if she has taken anything, ritalin, X, coke, crack, meth etc!.

Have her drink a glass of water, lay down and relax for 15 minutes!. If her pulse doesn't come down then yeah take her to the ER!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Go already!. Stop waiting for us morons to diagnose a condition from our keyboards!Www@Answer-Health@Com
