hi
i noticed you had a lot of answers, but no one had really had the experience themselves, and i thought some of the info given was a bit off!.!.!.

i have had 2 ACL reconstuctions and will be facing a third when i can fit it in, so i know all about this injury! i also like you, had a whole load of severe injuries accompanying the ACL, and those too have been not nice, although i think the ACL has by far been the worst and the hardest to recover from, i just dont expect at this point to ever have a knee like it once was, but a stable one will do!

well, this is a severe injury, and the ACL reconstruction is classed as a major surgery, and you will understand why if you research it, which i recommend! find out which graft you will be receiving too, not that that really matters ultimately, it is just good to know what you are having, and choose wisely if you are given a choice!

it is very painful, and you really do have to work at the rehab, an hour or so a day, small amounts but often, but you will be guided on this, dont do too much too soon, or things you are not allowed, but dont slack either!

i think most surgeons no longer use a brace for the ACL but for other things such as meniscal repairs alongside the ACL they have been known to be used!.!.!. i wouldnt think you would have one!.

6-9 months you can go back to sports if all is well, but this is an individual thing, do not rush it,revisions are nasty! and all in all 18 months til it is as good as it will get

a good physiotherapist is sooo important

good luck, and i hope i have helped youWww@Answer-Health@Com

My boyfriend tore his ACL!. It was really sore for a while, he needed a small brace and some ice at first!. He tore it in December and he had to wait until May to get the surgery because he was in school!. During the time it was torn and he couldn't get the surgery, it would ache if he put a lot of weight on it for an extended amount of time!. After he got the surgery he had to rehab at home for about a week, with his leg in this "exercise" machine thing the doctor gives you (basically you just strap your leg in and it moves it slowly in order to exercise it properly--you extend it more each day) and he had to take a lot of pain killers and ibprofen!. After that he needed to wear a large brace on his knee for about three weeks, and then a smaller one for about another month!. His doctor said he needed about 6 months total until it was completely healed!. Like I said he had the surgery in May, and now (December) he can jump around on it and everything and it doesn't hurt him anymore!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Its a pretty bad injury, but it depends on what you do, if this happened during a sports injury!. For example, my friend who played fullback in high school completely tore his ACL and MCL!. He was a very good short yardage back, because he ran with his legs, and could run over defenders!. When he came back, he was never the same, because he couldn't throw down people like he used to be able to!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I tore my acl and medial lateral tendants!. your looking at a knee brace before and after surgery!. and some kind of knee support for ever!. I elected not to get the surgery!. But 4 years later i wish i did it!. I didn't want to be off my feet and i lived in a place where i had to climb steps to go to sleep!. I feel for you!. Good luck and make sure you get the good drugs for sleeping, sleeping with a knee brace is terrible!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

That is really BAD and if you don't get it properly treated them it will damage your whole leg!. If i was you i would stay off of it as much as possible cause if not u could re-injure it and that might make you have to have a brace or something on it for the rest of your life so have someone go and get some crutches for you until your surgery

HOPE YOU GET BETTER :)Www@Answer-Health@Com

The fracture will heal on it's own, but the torn ACL is going to need surgery - as you already know!. You'll also end up with physical rehab for a while!.

When I tore my meniscus and MCL, I had to have surgery to have it fixed, and was in rehab for 2 months at 3 days per week, 2 hours per day, and I've still got home therapy to do for the next year!.

I wish you luck!.!.!.been there, done that!.!.!.and it SUCKS!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Its a pretty bad injury that will take a while to heal from!. I had knee surgery last year to realign my knee cap and i was in a straight leg brace for 3 months and took about a year to heal completely, i still have quite a bit of pain in my knee going up and down stairs!. Im only 25 and im still having problems with it!. Ive heard ACL injuries are pretty bad though and trust me knee surgery SUCKS!. But you will get throught it! Its a lot of hard work for the rehab therapy! Good luck with ur surgery!! No better time to do it than in the winter when theres not much going on anyways :) Hope everything turns out ok!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Acl is moderate to severe and is more painful than hard to repair or recover from!. Knee surgery is VERY difficult to recover from but if your young you have that on your side!. Always do you PT or you will regret it!. Good luck to you!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
