Question: When someone is cut deep, do you tie something tight ABOVE or BELOW the wound to stop blood flow!?

The blood supply in your body goes into each extremity from the torso, so it'd be above the extremity!.
Pressure bandages (and keeping adding bandages, don't take the bloody ones off) will help!. Elevating the injury!. There's also something out being used in various PDs and the military called Quick Clot that you place against the wound to help clot the wound but it's mostly for GSWs!. I guess it would work for a deep cut!.!.!. Can't place it on organ tissue though!.
Tourniquet is more of a far-from-any-help and desperate last-resort kind of treatment!. It's not really something that medical personnel do because they (ideally) can have you to a hospital fast enough!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

If you tie something below the wound, it won't do any good in controlling the bleeding!.
However, if you're taking about a tourniquet, they are a last resort because using them generally means anything below the tourniquet is going to die because of a loss of blood flow!.

If someone is bleeding and you tie something tight below the wound what good will it do!? none because the reason you use a tourniquet is to stop the blood getting to the wound in order to stop it bleeding!. Remember using tourniquets can be dangerous and you have to release them frequently, you can not just put one on and leave it for a couple of hours!. If you are unsure what to do the best bet is to use direct pressure on the wound if you use a pad and the blood comes through it put another pad on top and so on, and raise the affected area above the heart!. It's always above the wound because your trying to stop the blood flow to that region doing it below the wound will still allow blood to access the wound!. Basically that means you'll keep bleeding!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
