It's deep and yes, it will take a long time to heal!.
We know better these days than to put butter on burns (even though, yes, we use to do it!)!. Why!?
Because the skin's cells store much of the initial heat of the burn for a long while after - make especially sure you get that heat out of the area with cold, flowing water, ice or a cold pack!. It will take longer than you think, it will definitely shorten the healing process and if the worst you have to deal with later is a chilled thumb then you've come out of it alright!.
It will hurt tomorrow and the next day!. It will blister!. When it bursts keep it clean!. If you use a bandaid, change it often to keep it sterile!.

The way you describe it makes it sound like a third degree burn, but if it were a 3rd degree, full thinkness burn, you would NOT be on Yahoo looking for answers, you would be in the ER!. How about some more info!.!.!.How did you burn it!? Is the skin bubbling up like a blister, and that is what is giving it the white appearance!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

The white is likely a blister on top of the burn!. There's not a lot you can do except ice it and wait for it to heal!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

That's a deep thinkness burn, I think! Takes more then 3 weeks to heal!. Skin graft recommended!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
