Paracetamol + Morphine .. combine?!

Question: Paracetamol + Morphine !.!. combine!?
On Thursday I jumped over a gate and landed badly, which resulted in a double fracture of some bone in my foot!. The doctor prescribed me morphine!. I've taken the maximum dose, but am still in pain; can I take paracetamol or would that be a bad combination!?

ThanksWww@Answer-Health@Com

The others have it right, if morphine's not taking away all the pain, paracetamol is not going to do anything for you (being a much milder drug)!.

You could try applying local treatment, which might reduce the source of the pain!. You don't say what kind of plaster or other immobilisation there is on your foot!. Even with plaster, some of your foot will be exposed!.

Every fracture gets soft tissue damage around it, which causes swelling, which causes pain!. Put an ice pack on it!. This will help reduce swelling!. You can use crushed ice in a plastic bag!. Or you can buy quite cheaply a blue gel pack, which you cool off in your freezer!. These are more flexible and less messy than using actual ice!.

An ice pack will also make your foot a little numb, so you will feel less!.

Strangely enough, one milder painkiller that would be worth taking is aspirin, one 300 mg tablet every 2 hours at most!. This won't do anything for the pain directly, but aspirin acts to reduce swelling at the site!. (Works in your nose for a cold, or against blisters for a burn, too)!.

Otherwise, do something you can really get engrossed in, to take your mind off it (read a good book or get into a computer game)!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

You must talk to YOUR Doctor as you are already on a very high painkiller

Your Doctor will consider other aspects about you, your body, & your health!.

Paracetamol can be very dangerous in overdose and can do irreversible damage if you get it wrong!.

I am NOT a Doctor or Pharmacist, but would recommend you avoid adding painkillers until you talk to your Doctor!. Or the Pharmacist who dispensed the Morphine

UPDATE The Aspirin recommendation is sound!. However, you might find it upsets your stomach so always take it either with a little milk or with or after a bite to eat!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

There is a medication which combines Paracetamol and a form of high strength dihydrocodeine, which is close to morphine, I believe its Co-Dydramol!.

I would say 2 paracetamol at maximum wouldn't be too bad, but if morphine is not touching the pain, I don't know what you expect Paracetamol to achieve!.

You'd be better speaking to your local hospital or to your doctor!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Just call the Pharmacist at any pharmacy!. They will tell you how much you can take!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

If morphine can't clear it paracetemol will have no effect at all!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
