Do I have a fever? (Tylenol)?!

Question: Do I have a fever? (Tylenol)?
Well, I've been running a 101 fever since last night. Earlier in the day it was 99. We went to the doctor and I have two viruses and a bacterial infection in my sinuses. Anyways, I've taken a Tylenol, and my temperature on the oral thermometer is 98.9. I understand that Tylenol reduces your fever, and Tylenol has been in my system since 3:30 today. It is now 7:15. My question is this: Do I have a fever? The doctor told me that I cannot return to school until I don't have a fever WITHOUT the help of Tylenol...

Fevers are the natural response of a body to heal itself when attacked. They will stimulate the immune system and the elevated temperature will kill the invaders (microbes)! The optimum temperature for a body to kill microbes is
102 - 103F.

If you take aspirin to lower your temperature, you are sending your soldiers back to the fort and letting the enemy last longer than it should.

If you do have a fever you should support yourself by fasting or consuming broths and drinking fluids. Getting as much rest as possible is also a good idea. You may look tired and and feel sluggish, but your body is working hard to heal itself.

Yes, you do have a fever. The Tylenol is working that is why your temperature has dropped. Be patient, your Dr. was right. If you can go 24 hrs with no fever and no Tylenol or anything else then you can with your parents permission go back to school. You might want to consider alternating with Ibuprofen(Motrin) every two hours, depending on how you are responding to the Acetaminophen(Tylenol). However, DO NOT self medicate. do not take anything without your parents knowing about it. Some medications in combination or too frequently can cause you harm. For example, too much Acetaminophen can cause liver damage.
