I just had my tonsils removed and am in so much pain please help!?!

Question: I just had my tonsils removed and am in so much pain please help!?
I am 20 years old and just had my tonsils removed and now my throat feels scratchy at the back of my tongue and i can barely swallow my own saliva without being in so much pain. All i've had to drink is water with ice and as for eating i've had some sherbert ice cream and when i tried to eat yogurt it felt way too thick and hard to swallow. I need any and all advice i can get on how to deal with the pain and what to do about getting nourishment. Please and thank you

I hope your doctor gave you some pain medicine to help. If it hurts that bad call and ask if you can take a little more than prescribed or have someone in your family do so. I too have had my tonsils out about 5 years ago. 1 major thing to know, DON'T EAT DAIRY. Even though they say you can, don't. The milk irratates your throat and makes you want to scratch it real bad which will open your cuts. Get ice pops without milk in them, there are tons of flavors, I would avoid lemon/lime as it can sometimes burn your cuts (citric acid) but seriously no dairy. Just eat cold things and only have soup for food. I would only have it lukewarm as well or it may burn the cuts too. Your naturally going to be in a lot of pain, after all they just cut part of your body off. For food, just ice pops, soups without dairy or big chunks in them, and the only thing you can have that could have a little dairy is a protein shake to help get food down to your stomach. If you haven't already done so, its perfectly normal to throw up blood, nothing wrong with that. Feel better. If you do have pain meds and don't want to call the doctor its ok to up your own dosage a little bit. If your taking 5mg then take 10mg. But don't jump to 20mg. If 10mg doesn't work call your doctor. You may have a low pain tolerance in which case they will write you a strong pain med. Best of luck!

ICE POPS!

Ice cream that's been fairly well defrosted but is not completely there. If you weren't prescribe anything, take some ibuprofen or tylenol as needed. Keep sipping the ice water. That's all you can do.

Viacadin 10mg
