Blood test without fasting?!

Question: Blood test without fasting?
Today I went to the doctor about a query I had and he said I could have a blood test, he asked if I'd had breakfast that day and I said yes and he said that you should fast before hand but he could still do it anyway. My question is will it now not work and the results be incorrect because I didn't fast? Anyone know what difference it makes?
well I'd had breakfast 3 hours before but all I had was shredded wheat with rice milk and a boiled egg, and the tests were: thyroid, fsh,lh and other things similar to that which I can't remember

It depends what the test was for! Sugar and lipid profile tests are the classic ones requiring a fast, but they can still be interpreted if you have eaten.

GP for more years than I care to remember

Hey

The reason they prefer you not to eat is so that your food doesnt interfere with the test results. For example if they run full bloods then your sugar levels may be showing as high which would make them think you could have diabetes but as you had breakfast before the test that would be why the sugar was high, so basically the tests are coming back false or inaccurate.

Hope that helps
