I took 3 aspirins in the last 4 hours!?!


Question: I took 3 aspirins in the last 4 hours!?
I am 13 years old and i have a cold, like a sore throat, cough. This morning i had a headache and being home alone i looked for something for it and i took 1 extra strength aspirin at about 12 and then another at 12:30 then another at 1. As i took the 3rd one i looked at the bottle and read about reye's syndrome so i researched and now i'm scared! I haven't had any of the symptoms, but i was just wondering what the real symptoms are and is it even healthy for me to be taking 3 extra strength aspirins at this age?

You'll be fine. Be careful in future though. Always read the recommended dose first.

No, you should not take aspirin until age 16. Stick with Tyenol or Advil. However, the risk of Reye's Syndrome is really small. Keep in mind, Reye's Syndrome wasn't known of until relatively recently. I'm 35, and when I was a kid, nobody thought twice about giving kids aspirin. I never knew of anyone getting sick from it, and chances are, you will be fine.

If you do get any symptoms of Reye's, call your doctor or go to the hospital just to be safe, but I really think you'll be okay.

There is a safety margin built into recommended dosages. I would not think you have harmed yourself YET, But I recommend not taking any further medication for about the next 8 hours, then resume and stick to only the recommended dosage.

No just 3 you are OK ,, but dont take more . Not for a while anyway , try paracetamol instead but again dont overdo it
