Is it normal for my back to be hurting 2 weeks after I fell?!

Question: Is it normal for my back to be hurting 2 weeks after I fell?
I fell on my back when I slipped on ice a little more than 2 weeks ago. I went to the doctors and had x-rays done and the doctor said there was nothing wrong.

So she gave me muscle relaxers and told me to take Motrin which I have been using. Why is my back still hurting after 2 weeks?

Answers:

It depends upon the severity of the pain. An X-ray would only indicate obvious damage to the spinal column - not muscle or nerve damage. To get an idea of the condition of those tissues you would need an MRI, which your insurance is not likely to cover unless you have some kind of disability walking. That being said I would not recommend you go to your doctor demanding an MRI unless the pain is quite severe. If you are only having muscle soreness that you feel when you move your body in a certain way then there's a good chance that you just had a deep muscle bruise and will need a little longer to heal. Deep bruises can sometimes take up to a full month to heal depending upon the severity of the impact and whether or not it's a muscle that you can isolate and avoid using, or one that is aggravated on a regular basis.

When you fell you tightened up some muscles in your back that are now giving you that pain. If you wait long enough Mother nature will free them up, in 4 to 6 weeks, or you can free them up yourself and get rid of the pain now and here's how to free them up:
Back:
(do from a sitting position)
Place your left hand on your left leg next to your body. Place your right hand over your left shoulder, fingers over the back and the palm in the front and firmly pull down on them and hold. After 30 seconds slowly lower your body forward and to the outside of your left leg, keeping your left arm fairly straight as you do. When you reach your lap remain there for another 10 seconds, release the pressure but rest there for another 30 seconds. Then reverse your hand positions and do your right side.
For best results relax your body first by taking a deep breath and exhaling then remain this relaxed.

Ouch, my brother hurt his back a few months ago (forgot how) and he was in pain for about a month. He's fine now. A buddy of his went Snow boarding about 3 years ago and kept falling because he was new, genius didn't rest his back and started working on his car the next day. He Herniated a few disks in his back. Up until now he couldn't even walk straight, he didn't have any surgery done. With patience and therapy, he's doing very good now.

I wouldn't do any kind of heavy lifting if I were you, and give it some time. If it hurts even after a month I would see a specialist.

Probably strained muscle which you keep on reinjuring. Try to mobilise your back, gentle side bends, forward back bends. Define sore area, consider a trip to massage therapist, 2 - 3 hrs over one or two weeks may help. Lots of people do not understand the mobility of the human spine, it is very much taken for granted.

The same exact thing happened to me actually. I hurt my back a month ago and it just stopped hurting last week. I thought it was weird how it hurt me so long, but it's better now.

Hopefully it's like that for your back too. I honestly wouldn't worry if your doctor told you it's okay. :) But i'm no medical expert obviously.

maybe, you should invest in a pair of cleats, theyre called stabilizer, or ice bugs which are hiking boots with cleats on them, you will never fall again if you do that, you can get them thru amazon, i have those and theyre a life saver, i could never survive winters without them

It can take as long as 4-6 weeks, depending on how hard you fell. Take it easy, and whatever you do, don't lift anything. Even lifting a grocery bag could cause you to hurt it again. Also, lay on a heat pad, they really help.

Yes depending on how you fell and what is injured, it might take a while longer to get back to normal.

Yes.
I hurt my back a few years ago and it took over 4 months for the pain to go away
