cartilage piercing - swelling help!?!

Question: Cartilage piercing - swelling help!?
i got ear done a few weeks ago and i woke up one morning to it being swollen and i think its because my hair got wrapped around the back, i took off the back when i got home from school and it felt a lot better so its allowed the swelling to go down a lot! but now i have this dinger on the back of my ear, how do i get rid of it?! nothing is really pussing or anything everything is normal and i have been taking my earing out occasionally to clean the area, the back has been off all day and i don't wanna put the back on until the swelling is completley gone.): im just afraid of getting my ear chopped off!

Don't worry, you won't get your ear chopped off. If the area around the piercing isn't sore or exuding pus, the lump you can feel is probably the piercing healing. When a wound heals, it produces collagen, sometimes too much, which hardens and in some cases can feel like a little bump around the piercing. It's pretty common with cartilage piercings, especially if they've been bumped around a bit.

I'd recommend going back to your piercer to put your mind at rest, they will be able to look and tell you if all is a-ok or if you should see your Dr. In the meantime, keep it clean, and stick a plaster or some micropore tape over the piercing to stop your hair getting tangled in it again.
