Is an MRI with contrast painful? (read description)?!

Question: Is an MRI with contrast painful? (read description)?
I have to get an MRI of my sacroiliac joints (near the hips) and the radiologist said they have to use contrast. Does the contrast shot hurt? Do they inject it directly into my hip or is it injected intravenously? Also, is it absolutely necessary to use the contrast? Because I've heard about negative, unpleasant side effects of the contrast dye. Thanks for the help!

Most people that have an issue with contrast is with CT contrast. I just had a head MRI with contrast and the only thing that bothered me about it was when it first went in a got a weird warm sensation for about 30 seconds. Actually almost felt like I was going to go to the bathroom LOL.

Worst part of the MRI is staying still and the noise. IVs are easy and don't hurt at all. No worries on that... so much worse staying still. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

I don't think so because my mom had to get many MRIs and the only effect she had was that her pee was blue becaue her body was disposing of the dye.

Not painful at all.

not painful at all.... and maybe you should do a little research so you know what they're doing and why... learn something.

They inject it intravenously. And it can be somewhat painful. They are also not going to find anything doing that for you have tight muscles in your lower back pressing onto the nerves going to your legs and hips to cause the pains you are feeling. Tight muscles don't show up on scans. You can free up your back muscles to get the relief you need by doing this:
Back:
(do from a sitting position)
Place your left hand on your left leg next to your body. Place your right hand over your left shoulder, fingers over the back and the palm in the front and firmly pull down on them and hold. After 30 seconds slowly lower your body forward and to the outside of your left leg, keeping your left arm fairly straight as you do. When you reach your lap remain there for another 10 seconds, release the pressure but rest there for another 30 seconds. Then reverse your hand positions and do your right side.
For best results relax your body first by taking a deep breath and exhaling then remain this relaxed.
